Trump’s traitor denial and immigration idiocy (updated)

Update from last night: This is an unusual Tweet because it is in the evening (5:37 PM). It is another childish insult aimed at a U.S. Senator. Worse, it is an advertisement for a TV network, something no other president would ever do or ought to be allowed to do.

Trump’s Sunday morning Tweets are about immigration, and are on the bottom of this page.

Here’s what Trump said when Jeanine Pirro, chucking like an idiot, asked him “are you now, or have you ever worked for Russia, Mr. President?” Of course, a simple “no” would have sufficed.

I think it’s the most insulting thing I’ve ever been asked. I think it’s the most insulting article I’ve ever had written. And if you read the article, you’d see that they found absolutely nothing. But the, the headline of that article, it’s called “The failing New York Times” for a reason, they’ve gotten me wrong for three years. They’ve actually gotten me wrong for many years before that. But you look at what’s going on, you know, I fired James Comey. I call him lying James Comey, because he was a terrible liar, and he did a terrible job as the FBI director. Look at what happened with the Hillary Clinton and the e-mails and the Hillary Clinton investigation, one of the biggest screw-ups that anybody’s ever seen as an investigation. And what happened after I fired him? Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, his lover, Lisa Page, they did it. And, you know, they’re all gone. Most of those people, many, many people from the top ranks of the FBI, they’ve all been fired or they had to leave. And they’re all gone. This is what they were talking about. And, obviously, nothing was found. And I can tell you this, if you ask the folks in Russia, I’ve been tougher on Russia than anybody else, any other — probably any other president period, but certainly the last three or four presidents, modern day presidents. Nobody’s been as tough as I have from any standpoint including the fact that we’re doing oil like we’ve never done it, we’re setting records in our country with oil and exporting oil and many other things, so, which is obviously not great for them, because that’s what they, that’s where they get their money for the most part. But many other things. So I, I think it was a great insult. And the New York Times is a disaster as a paper. It’s a, it’s a very horrible thing they said, and they’ve gone so far that people that weren’t necessarily believers are now big believers, because they said that was a step too far. They really are a disaster of a newspaper.

Trump’s “I am not a traitor” tweets so far this morning (Saturday) from earliest to most recent:

1) Wow, just learned in the Failing New York Times that the corrupt former leaders of the FBI, almost all fired or forced to leave the agency for some very bad reasons, opened up an investigation on me, for no reason & with no proof, after I fired Lyin’ James Comey, a total sleaze!

2) …Funny thing about James Comey. Everybody wanted him fired, Republican and Democrat alike. After the rigged & botched Crooked Hillary investigation, where she was interviewed on July 4th Weekend, not recorded or sworn in, and where she said she didn’t know anything (a lie),…(3)….the FBI was in complete turmoil (see N.Y. Post) because of Comey’s poor leadership and the way he handled the Clinton mess (not to mention his usurpation of powers from the Justice Department). My firing of James Comey was a great day for America. He was a Crooked Cop……(4) …..who is being totally protected by his best friend, Bob Mueller, & the 13 Angry Democrats – leaking machines who have NO interest in going after the Real Collusion (and much more) by Crooked Hillary Clinton, her Campaign, and the Democratic National Committee. Just Watch!

5) I have been FAR tougher on Russia than Obama, Bush or Clinton. Maybe tougher than any other President. At the same time, & as I have often said, getting along with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing. I fully expect that someday we will have good relations with Russia again!

6) Lyin’ James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Peter S and his lover, agent Lisa Page, & more, all disgraced and/or fired and caught in the act. These are just some of the losers that tried to do a number on your President. Part of the Witch Hunt. Remember the “insurance policy?” This is it!

This is how James Comey responded to being referenced five times in Trump’s Tweets:

From a follow-up article in the New York Times published Saturday night: Trump Tweets Lengthy Attack on F.B.I. Over Inquiry Into Possible Aid to Russia.

Hours later, Mr. Trump continued his broadside on a friendly television venue, Jeanine Pirro’s show on Fox News. Asked “are you now or have you ever worked for Russia, Mr. President?” Mr. Trump did not directly answer the question.

“I think it’s the most insulting thing I’ve ever been asked,” he said by telephone. “I think it’s the most insulting article I’ve ever had written.”

…an investigation conducted by the Justice Department’s inspector general and internal surveys of F.B.I. agents have undercut Mr. Trump’s portrayal of Mr. Comey as corrupt and unpopular within the bureau.

Parts of the statements by Mr. Trump and Ms. Sanders are at odds with the public record and with the findings of the inspector general’s report.

He also Tweeted about the wall this morning. I am only including commentary on his “I am not a Traitor Tweets:”

On Tweet #5 when he says he fully expects that someday we will have good relations with Russia again I wish someone would ask him when the last time we had good relations with them was. I think we would have to go back to World War II when we were both fighting the Nazis.

This reminds my of the MAGA question: when does Trump think America was great? Was it before the Civil War? Was it when the robber barons had more power than the government?

Trump conveniently ignores that the FBI already was seriously concerned about evidence suggesting that he and Russia were working together and were already considering opening an investigation before his firing of Comey. This was the final straw.

Trump demonstrates convoluted defensive reasoning (really lack thereof) and ignorance of what it takes to open a counterintelligence investigation of a high government official (and multiply that tenfold when it is a president.) My understanding is that this would have required approval at the highest level of the FBI and the DOJ.

I won’t be the first and I won’t be the last to say Trump is behaving the way an unhinged guilty person would.

Responding to Trump’s wall and immigrant bashing lie-filled Tweets today would raise my blood pressure to dangerous levels:

Democrats should come back to Washington and work to end the Shutdown, while at the same time ending the horrible humanitarian crisis at our Southern Border. I am in the White House waiting for you!

23% of Federal inmates are illegal immigrants. Border arrests are up 240%. In the Great State of Texas, between 2011 & 2018, there were a total of 292,000 crimes by illegal aliens, 539 murders, 32,000 assaults, 3,426 sexual assaults and 3000 weapons charges. Democrats come back!

Democrats could solve the Shutdown in 15 minutes! Call your Dem Senator or Congresswoman/man. Tell them to get it done! Humanitarian Crisis.

I just watched a Fake reporter from the Amazon Washington Post say the White House is “chaotic, there does not seem to be a strategy for this Shutdown. There is no plan.” The Fakes always like talking Chaos, there is NONE. In fact, there’s almost nobody in the W.H. but me, and…

Trump contends that the White House isn’t chaotic, which may be true since he says he is almost the only one there. In fact, there is no doubt that whether chaos reigns around him, it dominates his mind. Phil Rucker, who believes he is “the “Fake reporter from the Amazon Washongton Post” Trump tweeted about responded to the Tweet above with this:

….I do have a plan on the Shutdown. But to understand that plan you would have to understand the fact that I won the election, and I promised safety and security for the American people. Part of that promise was a Wall at the Southern Border. Elections have consequences!

We have a massive Humanitarian Crisis at our Southern Border. We will be out for a long time unless the Democrats come back from their “vacations” and get back to work. I am in the White House ready to sign!

Trump, the all time king of presidential vacations, chastizes Democrats for taking a break. Give me a break!

I wasn’t going to include Trump’s video Tweet of him at the border, the final Tweet of the morning. Then I read this on The Daily Beast and changed my mind since I couldn’t help but put a comment on his Twitter feed, not that he will ever read it.

Posted at noon, EST, Sunday Morning Tweets. Most of them are outright lies. Number 5 is patently absurd. Then again, we know that when Trump uses the word “many,” in this case “many Hispanics,” it is the same “many” as when he talks about the “many scientists” that don’t believe in climate change.

  1. Thousands of illegal aliens who have committed sexual crimes against children are right now in Texas prisons. Most came through our Southern Border. We can end this easily – We need a Steel Barrier or Wall. Walls Work! John Jones, Texas Department of Public Safety.

  2. The damage done to our Country from a badly broken Border – Drugs, Crime and so much that is bad – is far greater than a Shutdown, which the Dems can easily fix as soon as they come back to Washington!

  3. I’m in the White House, waiting. The Democrats are everywhere but Washington as people await their pay. They are having fun and not even talking!

  4. The building of the Wall on the Southern Border will bring down the crime rate throughout the entire Country!

  5. Democrats are saying that DACA is not worth it and don’t want to include in talks. Many Hispanics will be coming over to the Republican side, watch!

Trump admits true purpose of Russian meeting he lied about but…

President Donald Trump today acknowledged an earlier lie about a meeting about a secret meeting his son, son-in-law and former campaign manage held with Russians in the Trump Tower in an hope to gather dirt on opponent Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Presidential election.

In an angry tweet from his New Jersey golf club, where Trump is having an extended vacation he is calling a “working session,” Trump fired off missives about the meeting, the news media and special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election.

His tweeted:

Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower. This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics – and it went nowhere. I did not know about it!

After news of the meeting broke, Trump — on Air Force One — dictated a response to the media, claiming the meeting was about to discuss immigration issues, not opposition research on Clinton.

“We primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children that was active and popular with American families years ago,” the statement read.

The story about the meeting changed several more times, eventually forced by the discovery of emails between the president’s eldest son and an intermediary from the Russian government offering damaging information about Trump’s opponent, Hillary Clinton. Betraying no surprise or misgivings about the offer from a hostile foreign power, Trump Jr. replied: “If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer.”

Sunday’s tweet was Trump’s clearest statement yet on the purpose of the meeting, which has become a focal point of Mueller’s investigation even as the president and his lawyers try to downplay its significance and pummel the Mueller probe with attacks. On Sunday, Trump again suggested without evidence that Mueller was biased against him, declaring, “This is the most one sided Witch Hunt in the history of our country.”

As Trump and his allies have tried to discredit the probe, a new talking point has emerged: that even if that meeting was held to collect damaging information, none was provided and “collusion” — Trump’s go-to description of what Mueller is investigating — never occurred.

“The question is what law, statute or rule or regulation has been violated, and nobody has pointed to one,” said Jay Sekulow, one of Trump’s attorneys, on ABC’s “This Week.”

Legal experts point out several possible criminal charges, including conspiracy against the United States and aiding and abetting a conspiracy. Despite Trump’s public Twitter denial, the president has expressed worry that his son may face legal exposure even as he believes he did nothing wrong, according to three people close to the White House familiar with the president’s thinking but not authorized to speak publicly about private conversations.

Sekulow acknowledged that the public explanation for the meeting has changed but insisted that the White House has been very clear with the special counsel’s office. He said he was not aware of Trump Jr. facing any legal exposure.

“I don’t represent Don Jr.,” Sekulow said, “but I will tell you I have no knowledge at all of Don Jr. being told that he’s a target of any investigation, and I have no knowledge of him being interviewed by the special counsel.”

Trump’s growing private anger spilled out into public with the Twitter outburst Sunday, which comes at yet perilous time for his embattled presidency.

Still pending is a decision about whether he sits for an interview with Mueller and it may occur in the coming weeks, according to Rudy Giuliani, his attorney and his primary spokesman now on the Mueller probe.  Trump ‘s anger increasing over what he feels are trumped-up charges against his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, whose trial began last week and provided a visible reminder of Mueller’s work.

He rages against what he claims are the media’s obsession with his links to Russia and the status of Cohen, his former fixer. Cohen is telling prosecutors what he knows about Trump really knew about the Trump Tower meeting ahead of time.

Despite a show of force from his national security team this week as a warning against future Russian election meddling, Trump called the matter a “hoax” again this week. At a trio of rallies, he raised the volume of his already vitriolic rhetoric toward the media, savaging the press for unflattering coverage and, he claims, bias.

Another of his tweets Sunday:

The Fake News hates me saying that they are the Enemy of the People only because they know it’s TRUE. I am providing a great service by explaining this to the American People. They purposely cause great division & distrust. They can also cause War! They are very dangerous & sick!

The fusillade of tweets came from Bedminster, Trump’s golf course, where he is ensconced in a property that bears his name at every turn and is less checked in by staffers. It was at the New Jersey golf club where a brooding Trump has unleashed other inflammatory attacks and where, in spring 2017, he made the final decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, the move that triggered the Russia probe.

Trump was joined for his Saturday rally in Ohio by former White House communications director Hope Hicks, who departed the administration earlier this year. Her unannounced presence raised some eyebrows as Hicks has been interviewed by Mueller and was part of the team of staffers that helped draft the original statement on the Trump Tower meeting.

Multiple White House officials have been interviewed while still working at the White House and have remained in contact with the president.
