Money Is Not “Wealth”

Barack Obama is an intelligent man, if finishing first in your class at Harvard Law School is any indication. And he is assembling an impressive group of Keynsian economists to address the current economic crisis.

As intelligent as Obama is, this approach is doomed to fail before it even starts. At the heart of the issue is the fundamental misunderstanding–deliberate or not–of the difference between “money” and “wealth.”

President-elect Obama Announces Economic Advisory Board

OBAMA: It has been increasingly clear in recent months — and we saw some additional reports this morning — that we’re facing an economic crisis of historic proportions. And at this defining moment in our nation’s history, the old ways of thinking and the old ways of acting just won’t do. We’re …

Honor The Taxpayer!

Here’s a great idea I heard this morning…

Since the government is bailing out Citgroup with billions, a couple of NY State reps are suggesting that the $400 Million that Citigroup is putting into the new Mets stadium in order to get it named “Citi Field” should get a new review.

Their suggestion is to name the stadium “Citi/Taxpayer Field.”

Obama sets up economic board

President-elect Barack Obama is naming a board of economic experts outside government to advise him on ways to create jobs and bring stability to the ailing financial system.

Obama was expected to introduce members of the advisory board Wednesday at a news conference, his third in as many days as Americans moved into the long Thanksgiving weekend. It was a remarkable burst of public activity for Obama, who has sought to assure nervous consumers and financial markets that he will bring swift economic relief as president.

Obama’s greybeards

Barack Obama’s campaign credo: Change is good. President-elect Barack Obama’s credo: When it comes to war and peace, maybe wisdom is better.

Obama has assembled a national security brain trust populated by graybeard establishment figures with decades of combined experience and even a few medals. He is entrusting critical wartime management to people with unassailable credentials and low buzz factor.

The best example of the Obama Battleplan Version 2.0 is Robert Gates (above).

Betting on Black Friday

The day after Thanksgiving is now, at least semi-officially, Black Friday. It is not funeral name like Black Tuesday in October, 1929, when the stock market crashed. No, Black Friday is, as Martha Stewart would say, a good thing because it is the day when retailers, like perhaps Stewart herself, hope their businesses start turning a profit for the year, i.e., go into the black.

Black Friday is the start of the holiday shopping season although that has eroded somewhat now that Christmas specials are being offered before Halloween and all fall retailers have been offering big discounts to woo credit-strapped consumers back into the store. And the stores are making extra effort. Kohl’s is opening at 4 a.m. Friday, Toys "R" Us at 5.
