Perhaps some of the problems we face lie in our definitions of certian terms.

when it comes to the term “bureaucracy” there seems to be some confusion. So let’s look at the dictionary and how it defines the word.

2. the body of officials and administrators, esp. of a government or government department.
3. excessive multiplication of, and concentration of power in, administrative bureaus or administrators.

Rep. Tom Lantos dead at 80

Rep. Tom Lantos, who as a teenager twice escaped from a Nazi-run forced labor camp in Hungary and became the only Holocaust survivor to win a seat in Congress, has died. He was 80.

Spokeswoman Lynne Weil said Lantos, a Californian, died early Monday at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center in suburban Maryland. He was surrounded by his wife, Annette, two daughters, and many of his 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Annette Lantos said in a statement that her husband’s life was “defined by courage, optimism, and unwavering dedication to his principles and to his family.”

Conservative Gary Bauer endorses McCain

Republican John McCain challenged the notion he is struggling to rally conservative critics as he picked up the endorsement Monday of evangelical leader Gary Bauer.

“We’re doing fine. We’re doing fine,” McCain told reporters in Annapolis, dismissing the notion that losses in two states on Saturday had hurt his campaign.

The entry on “thinking about liberalism” is right on. Liberalism is a product of 18th century ‘enlightenment’ which produced the American Revolution. It’s basis is that persons count and are the basis of an “ocracy” built upon the demos – the Greek man/woman. If man is important so are his ideas. So freedom of that individual to think and express and act is central to liberalism. It also suggests that government should be concerned not only with protecting that freedom but working for the individual’s quality of life.

Obama takes Maine, closes in on Clinton

Barack Obama defeated Hillary Rodham Clinton in Maine presidential caucuses Sunday, grabbing a majority of delegates as the state’s Democrats overlooked the snowy weather and turned out in heavy numbers for municipal gatherings.

Democrats in 420 Maine towns and cities were deciding how the state’s 24 delegates will be allotted at the party’s national convention in August. Despite the weather, turnout was “incredible,” party executive director Arden Manning said.

With 99 percent of the participating precincts reporting, Obama led in state delegates elected over Clinton, 2,079 to 1,396, with 18 uncommitted.
