The State Department is defending its handling of classified and sensitive information against statements by the FBI director that the department doesn’t handle such information as well as other government agencies.
State Department spokesman John Kirby says the department takes cybersecurity very seriously, contrary to conclusions in the FBI’s probe of Hillary Clinton’s private email server.
FBI Director James Comey said Tuesday the State Department’s security culture lacks the same kind of care for classified information as found at other departments.
His criticism echoes the findings of multiple previous reviews of how cybersecurity was handled at the State Department while former Secretary of State Clinton led the agency.
