Skeptical Democrats not sold on Obama’s latest health care plan

President Barack Obama faces skepticism on his latest revised health care plan not only from Republicans but also from Democrats who have one eye on polls and the other on a tough re-election campaign in 2010. Obama Wednesday called on Congress to put aside a year of partisanship and bitter divisions over his faltering health […]

Anti-abortion Democrats threaten health care bill

Anti-abortion Democrats threaten health care bill

The fate of President Barack Obama‘s signature health care bill in Congress could lie in the hands of a dozen Democrats who oppose abortion and who want a provision barring it. Michigan Democratic Rep. Bob Stupak says he and his fellow anti-abortion Democrats are prepared to take the heat if they can sink the bill. […]

Reconciliation: GOP’s new dirty word

Democrats may hold the majorities in the House and Senate but they are losing the propaganda war daily to Republicans when it comes to opinions of the hearts and minds of the American people, especially on the divisive issue of health care reform. Now, as House and Senate leaders push for passage of health care […]

Pelosi: Back the health care bill even if it costs you your job

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has an incredible message for her Democratic colleagues: Support health care even if it costs them their seat in Congress. Appearing Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” news talk program, Pelosi said health care is too important to play it safe politically. “We’re not here just to self-perpetuate our service […]

Health care summit craps out

They came, they talked, they pontificated, they postured. In the end, they accomplished nothing. After seven-and-a-half hours of positioning, President Barack Obama, Republicans and Democrats failed to reach any agreement on health care reform and Obama now will do what he planned to do all along — push for a “my way or the highway […]

Health summit: Much ado about nothing

Here’s a moment of rare Washington bipartisanship for you: Republicans and Democrats agree that President Barack Obama‘s much-ballyhooed publicly-televised summit on health care will be much ado about nothing because nothing will come out of it. “We’re happy to be there, but I’m not sure what the purpose is,” says Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell […]

The health care soap opera approaches

Coming soon to daytime television: America’s long-running civic drama over how to provide better health care to more of its people without breaking the bank. President Barack Obama summons anxious Democrats and aloof Republicans to a White House summit Thursday — live on C-SPAN and perhaps cable — and gambles that he can save his […]

Moonbats and wingnuts: Why the numbers matter

The far extremes of both parties get too much of the news. Currently the far right with their Barack as Adolph signs and their most outrageous comments play well to the show business side of the 24/7 news. These are the so-called wingnuts. Among them are the birthers, those who think Obama is a secret Muslim, and who wants to pull the plug on grandma. The far lefties, the moonbats, grumble about Obama’s health care not being socialist enough and cast their counter-parts on the other extreme as rednecks and racists. Why can’t we just ignore the extremists and pay attention to the rational Republicans and Democrats? (See William Safire: “On Moon Bats and Wing Nuts”)
