Timing is bloody everything

It should have been a time for rejoicing. The man who sought and thrived on divisive politics came to an early end, with rumors of Abramof indictments and worse swinging over his head like a pendulum from Edgar Allan Poe. As much as we would like to celebrate the resignation of Karl Rove, now is not the time.

FISA – the disaster in progress

Several months ago, the FISA court ruled that Team Bush repeatedly and consistently broke the law (contrary to the legal scribblings and recommendations by Alberto Gonzales and his aides- the folks who put anal in analysis) by engaging in warrantless wiretaps, home invasions, and worse without notifying the FISA court and without valid warrants.

Arms sales

The numbers are almost beyond understanding. Shocking, scary, and symptomatic of everything wrong with this administration.

30 billion – Israel (including cluster bombs)
20 billion – the House of Saud
15 billion – Egypt

and many more billions for other nations in the region. That is the cost of MILITARY AID we are throwing into a regional war zone. To opposing parties. With differing interests.

Paris? PARIS ? ? ? ?

Alberto Gonzales’ lies have become so obvious and painful that even some GOPers are scratching their collective heads and complaining. Other than deadbeats like Orwin Hatch, and a few others, it is clear that the only people who support the AG are the president and the Veep, the two most concerned about what might happen if Gonzo saw that it was bedtime.

Sicko

Instead of sweating outside in 98+ F heat, I decided to brave the motion picture industry and see a movie.

Mike Moore’s Columbine was over the top. His F-911, while creative and amusing, took took too many liberties or swipes without a basis (although I enjoyed it and agreed with his message).

Why are we in so much trouble?

It is a funny thing, power. In certain circumstances, the very nature of “Power” precludes its use. A great example was the cold war when the USSR and USA pointed thousands of uranium tipped long distance rocks at each other. To use that power was to lose it, and perhaps to lose everything.

When in the course of human events…

…it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature entitle them, a decent respect for the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
