Cashing in on Foley

Some Internet-savvy entrepreneurs have wasted no time trying to cash in on the scandal surrounding disgraced former congressman Mark Foley.

Less than 48 hours after Foley resigned amid questions about his sexually-explicit online messages to teenage boys who once worked as congressional pages, dozens of scandal-related items were up for sale on the web site

The site allows people to design their own logos and pictures, then markets them for sale on everything from coffee mugs and T-shirts to thong underwear.

Among the items available Sunday night:

  • T-shirts with Foley’s smiling face, and the quotation from one of his alleged instant messages to a teen: "Do I make you a little horny?"
  • Throw pillows and tote bags emblazoned with a caricature of Foley and the slogan: "Please! Leave the children behind."
  • Greeting cards with a cartoon drawing of the Republican mascot, the elephant, and the saying, "G.O.P. – Grand Old Perverts."

There were 95 items available as of 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and new ones were being added every few minutes.
