When he’s not taking aim at liberal politicians or the forces of evil, Focus on the Family founder James Dobson has a different target: bears.
Dobson, who leads one of the biggest evangelical Christian media empires in the world, took a break from a Values Voter Summit Friday, to tell a standing-room only crowd about a recent hunting trip.
Long story short: a bear crept a little too close for comfort, so Dobson said he fired a single shot and sent him to meet his maker.
"We had a lot of fun," Dobson said, pausing. "Those of you who don’t like hunting and that story offends you, get over it."
He said that the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) called him recently.
"PETA called and asked if there was some way we could work together," Dobson said.
To which Tony Perkins, leader of the Family Research Council, quipped: "Did you tell them they could carry the bear out for you?"
