The real axis of evil that destroyed America

Five years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the United States of America lies beaten, battered and defeated – not by an enemy of extremists who hide in caves in Afghanistan but by its own government and leaders who sold out their nation for power and politics.

The America that exists today is a far cry from the one that woke up on the morning of September 11, 2001. It is a rotting corpse of a nation, eaten out by a cancer of power, greed and corruption.

Osama bin Laden and his minions did not destroy America when hijacked airliners slammed into the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon and an empty field. They simply provided the spark to ignite nothing less than a coup to take over the United States government, a coup staged by a group of traitorous men and women who swore to uphold the Constitution but, instead, set about to dismantle that hallowed document and destroy the freedoms that once defined a great nation.

George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleeza Rice and those who control Congress and support Bush’s actions serve as co-conspirators in this coup.

The once-great United States of America is now despised around the world as an international bully, a threat to world peace far greater than Islamic militants or communist dictators,

America neither deserves nor gets respect. It lost all chance for any respect when a liar named Bush used manufactured "evidence" to launch an illegal invasion of a sovereign nation. It lost all chance for respect when its leaders sanctioned torture of prisoners, abuse of freedoms and spying on its own citizens. A nation that does not practice democracy at home cannot claim to export it to other nations. A government that lies to its own people cannot expect respect or support.

George W. Bush is a liar, a war monger and a murderer – drenched in the blood of every American soldier and Iraqi civilian who has died in his war launched with falsified evidence and trumped up rationales.

And, as we take a moment today to honor the memories of those who died in New York, Washington and that empty field in Pennsylvania, let’s also take time to point the finger of blame at the real enemy of freedom and peace – a madman named Bush and the mad men and women who follow him.

Had Bush and his administration acted promptly on warnings that an attack on U.S. soil was coming and coming soon, we might not have needed to remember this day in history. Perhaps, as some suggest, he wanted the attacks to occur in order to justify his war in Iraq. Others believe he and the government played a role. After six years of watching this man in action, I’m no longer predisposed to dismiss any suspicion about him or his actions.

It is George W. Bush who represents the real evil that threatens America. He is a vile, heartless man who deserves nothing but contempt and one who should be led from the White House in shackles and tried as a traitor. Then we should turn him over to the international court so he can be tried as the mass murderer he is, the greatest threat in modern times to freedom in this world.

And others complicit in the Bush cabal must be brought to justice as well – Vice President Cheney, Defense Secretary Rumsfeld and Secretary of State Rice, along with the leadership of Congress.

This is no longer simply a case of voting bad leaders out of office. These men and women are despots who have sold out their country and must face swift, brutal justice as traitors.

It is often asked how we can honor those men and women who died on September 11, 2001. We can do so by restoring the country that died along with them. We can do it by restoring honor to a nation that has lost it because of a duplicitous, traitorous government that abandoned its principles, its morality and its values.

We can do it by restoring the real America and punishing those who are ultimately responsible – a corrupt Presidential administration and a Congress of co-conspirators who used a national nightmare for political benefit and a way to seize absolute control of a shell-shocked nation.

    POSTED BY KIKI:

…”They’re more interested in American Idol than American politics.”

Right on the mark and don’t think for a single second that these political criminals currently occupying the White House the Cabinet and Congress have that completely figured out.

…and therin lies the damming of America, once a proud nation that really stood for freedom not the constant reminders these days that we must see things the way of this cabal of criminals to insure it.

Just like “fair and balanced” IF YOU TRULY ARE…you don’t have to tell people 8 times an hour or more, 24-hours a day…365 days a year.

Joesph Goebbels said the bigger the lie the more the people will believe it, and as we see the lie has been believed by the partisan right wing nuts.
Mr. Thompson is on the right on when he said that people that swore to uphold the Constitution have instead dismantled it.
Lets honor the dead of this tragedy and the dead from WWll who fought and died for our freedoms, for they have died in vain if we loose our fight to save the CONSTITUTION, and the once GREAT COUNTRY THAT WAS THE BEACON OF FREEDOM AROUND THE WORLD.

  4. anthnytap  September 11, 2006 at 4:42 pm

The Constitution has been violated beyond recognition. If this country dies all the mem and women that died in WWll have died in vain.
Goebbels said the bigger the lie the more people will believe it.

Everything organic, including government structures, have a life cycle–Empires long before the birth of America in 1776 followed the same pathway into history, so why should the USA be any different?

We think we are educated, resourceful; to a degree the nation and its people are. Its these qualities that are dooming a once great nation in. Always looking ahead, not respecting history’s teachings, we go about repeating the mistakes and with all our smartness, we have done ourselves in.

The difference, it is us who are not liking what we are seeing happen and we are an unhappy bunch. Get angry, get mad, get active!!

By the way Doug, you can add Karl Rove and Colin Powell to your listing of those selling out the country.

  6. Fred Goepfert  September 11, 2006 at 4:50 pm

When we cleanse ourselves of those who follow the Trotskyite policies of Leo Strause (Wolfowitz, Pearle, Hadley, Cheney etc. and their drunken puppet George W. Bush, we will be able to start to get our country back.

Those people allowed 9/11 tp occur when it could have been stopped. It gave them the Pearl Harbor they spoke of needing.

Almost 3,000 people dead on 9/11, more than 2,600 US service people killed in Iraq, because these war criminals thought they had a way to create a self-serving world empire.

  7. barbara lochner  September 11, 2006 at 5:11 pm

Best ever, Doug. Here’s the scary part: there are still many many people who love Bush, etc., no matter what. These people consider themselves smart and church-going…and on the winning side. When confronted with yet another Bush-driven atrocity they just say they aren’t talking about it. This exact response is so wide-spread that I’m wondering if it’s being preached to them on Sunday, at the directive of Karl Rove. I’ve walked away from family members and 30 year friendships over this.

I have spent the last couple of hours following the reporting of 9/11 by the so called Big Media, and it’s every bit as pathetic as I thought it would be. I should have known to come here first where I would find the truth being spoken–it always is. Thank you Doug for saying what has to be said. I wonder if you realize what an inspiration you are to thousands of people–keep speaking out and so will we.

  9. Joe Lawrence  September 11, 2006 at 5:17 pm

    Yes, but.

Many of us think of ourselves as generalized “Americans,” and we have some internalized notion of what that term means.

Do two things for me, please.

    1. Keep telling yourself that only half of elligible voters actually vote.

    2. Sit in your car, parked outside a Wal-Mart. Watch the people. Decide whether we can act as “a people.”

  10. Dr. Steven H. Horn, PdD  September 11, 2006 at 5:34 pm

Brilliant article. Our great nation is based on the constitution.
George W. Bush swore to uphold and defend the constitution – and then gathered an army of wing-tipped hucksters to trample on the document as he and his cronies strengthened their positions and further isolated us from the rest of the world.
What is the cost of treason under our legal system? George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, KKKarl Rove and others should be forced to pay that cost, the way many have paid the price for freedom.

    Peace

    Steve

Thank you for stating the truth. I would add the former and current AGs (Ashcroft and Gonzalez) on the list of top officials who should be be hauled off to prison.

I printed this editorial and placed it beside my computer as a constant reminder of how we have dishonored so many and the continuous threat to our country. Again, thank you.

Doug this was clearly one of the finest, most hard-hitting, and exceptionlly articulate articles ever written about the Republican perfidity that is raping our nation. It addresses our feelings of frustration and anger about the gang-of-four and their henchmen in Congress. I, and my friends, thank you for the directed anger. We are doing our best to get a Demo Congress elected so that more investigations into their perfidity can be undertaken. Impeachment is on our mind always. The extraordinary miscarriage of direction executed by this administration is that Osama Bin Laden is probably having a party in his cave, showing the same movies of the Twin Towers falling, accepting praises from his men for the brilliant destruction of the Towers, and toasting to new victories in the future. Why does not this vision infuriate those responsible for finding him? Why is he still alive and laughing?

  14. Jim  September 11, 2006 at 6:01 pm

Doug, what a switch. Wasn’t too long ago you blasted us “Conspiracy Theorists”. Glad you’ve finally come around. I’ve been following “Givemeliberty.org”, I think these guys have a good chance of turning things around..or..we’ll find out for sure the constitution is gone. They have the most interesting approach I’ve seen. Check it out.

I second every word Mr. Thompson wrote.
A national dignified memorial service would have been called for, all else is just politics and demeaning the victims.

  16. Grant & Theda Kresge  September 11, 2006 at 6:27 pm

Thank you Doug. Keep on keeping on with the truth. Being 70′ish seniors, we hope to live and see our country make a turnabout-becoming the Great America it once was. At this point in time, it doesn’t seem likely.

  17. Grant Miller  September 11, 2006 at 6:30 pm

Wow! Great editorial. Yes, we have done this to ourselves. We have stood by and watched depravity, greed, and corruption take place on an unprecedented scale. Just when you think Bush is done making incredibly stupid and selfish decisions of policy, there’s always another one. Two more years of the same can be expected. Can we afford any more abuse of power? Are we too far gone as a nation to recover? Is impeachment a viable option? Unfortunately, we aren’t even guaranteed a secure voting process to help restore that which we’ve lost. This too has been infiltrated and corrupted. It’s going to be a long way back to the light….

  18. J. Green  September 11, 2006 at 6:38 pm

Doug, I am a korea and vietnam vet. I have always been proud of this country and have never had any regrets in serving this great nation of ours for 23 years. But when I see what Bush and his axis of evils is doing to this country it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and some time I just feel like crying because, as you said, “The Greatness of This Country, we once knew, is gone forever, and just as the germen people did, we stood by and watched it happen and did nothing to stop this mad man. But I still have hope that a change is about to be birth.

keep up the good work Doug.

SOME excellent and well thought out posts here.

I will take it one step further.

BUSH, CHENEY, ROVE, RUMSFELD, WOLFOWITZ, GONZALES, ASHCROFT the LOT should face charges that amount to war crimes and crimes against the Constitution.

Bush has VIOLATED his Oath of Office time and again. YET, not a whimper or any serious stature from Congress OF EITHER PARTY.

This OATH, which meant NOTHING to him when he repeated the words as did CHENEY has been IMO reduced to simply words with no meaning.

A tribute to the victims of 9/11 is appropriate. Where is the tribute to all the dead and dying soldiers that fought in PNAC’s attempted takeover of America and the free world starting in Iraq.

PNAC figured a cakewalk. That isn’t what they got.

I NEVER thought i would hear myself say these words but just MAYBE we should listen to the words of former Iranian President Katami.

He is ripped by everyone from Limbaugh to Hannity to O Reilley, to preachers of the extreme right. But guess what ? He makes more sense and has more REAL ANSWERS that make sense that anything out of Washington lately.

BUSH invading a foreign and Soverign country illegally, without merit, planned LONG BEFORE 9/11 by PNAC has in fact swelled the ranks of extremeists and terrorits. That much we must admit. The continued presence there only keeps adding oil to the fire.

If we leave, these “terrorists” will percieve that we have no stomach for a fight, we will be perceived as week by those that would give the terrorists airtime…like FOX. Cut off their sources of media and they will wither and die.

I say all American troops out NOW…but only to say Qatar where we can be in a holding area. OBSERVE. If we need to go back in we do and if we do we go in with overwhelming force, not this baloney that has killed 2700+ Americans so far and wounded 1,000 more for life.

What would we lose by doing it that way? NOTHING…ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. What would we gain? We would save more soldiers lives. The real enemy of the American Fighting man is NOT in Iraq, it is in Washington DC…PERIOD

I agree wholeheartlkey with DOUG THOMPSON. These criminals against the Constitution and the American Peopel ALL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE need to be marched out of the Congress, the Cabinet and the White House IN CHAINS and tried for the crimes they have committed against all of us…ALSO PERIOD.

This is my opinion. I do believe that I am still, for the moment anyway entitled to it. My calls however if read by any of these so called PATRIOTS for Freedom that paint themselves with their own brush will undoubtedly be monitored as I qualify, writing this from Overseas.

That’s all you need these days.

I know. I should use the Reader Rant but I can’t get in there this morning.

As concerns…Cheney sticks to hardline rhetoric By TOM RAUM

Cheney -> “Part of my job is to think about the unthinkable, to focus upon what in fact the terrorists may have in store for us,” Cheney told NBC’s Meet the Press when asked about his “dark side.”

Me-> Hello dippy, you ol’ scatter-gun- expert-on-a-battery. The terrorist were never in Iraq until we invaded and, in our magnanimous spirit, gave the Iraqi people “freedom” and 50,000+ dead and an unrelenting blood-filled sectarian war! You should accept their thanks personally in the streets of Bagdad. Take your rubbers…the blood is ankle deep.

Cheney -> He now recognizes that the insurgency in Iraq was not “in its last throes,” as he said in May 2005. “I think there is no question but that we did not anticipate an insurgency that would last this long,” the vice president said.

What is this “we didn’t anticipate”? Do you have a mouse in your pocket? Clearly, it was “unthinkable” for us. But you, it was your job to think of the “unthinkable”! Where were you when we needed the “unthinkable” thought of?

Cheney-> “It’s still difficult. Obviously, major, major work to do is ahead of us. But the fact is, the world is better off today with Saddam Hussein out of power. Think where we’d be if he was still there,”

Me -> I’m thinking what the world would be like if Osama Bin Laden were dead! You do remember him, laughing in a cave in Afganistan, while thinking your “unthinkable” thoughts, don’t you?

  21. Kaine  September 11, 2006 at 7:04 pm

    Just a couple of comments.

Doug, why do you hate America?

    and,

Don’t you know that it was all Clintons fault?!??

Oh, and excellent rant! I agree with every word of it. And not just the words, but also the ambiance. Totally accurate and a great tribute to the spirit of this day.

    Thank you!

This is INDEED the TRUTH, and it’s going to be rough going for those whose heads are still in the sand. However, in due time they will awaken and realize how long we’ve all been asleep to the goings on of the government.
    Thank God, for the awakening.

  24. Peter Chewning  September 11, 2006 at 9:04 pm

Doug, There can be no greater testament to those who died on this date than a man who writes as you did this morning.

As Keith Olbeman of MSNBC remindes us recently Edward R. Murrow broadcast in 1954 at another time when Freedom in the U.S. was under attack from those who were SUPPOSED to protect it”

“We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof, and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law.

“We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men, not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were for the moment unpopular.”

Could not have said it better .

  25. Andres Fimbres  September 11, 2006 at 9:24 pm

Although I generally agree with the contention that this country has been changed, and for the worst, I will not accept that it has changed “forever”, as someone commented earlier. To do so is cowardly. How could anyone claim to say they love America, and give up on us so easily? Truth is not merely stating the obvious as Mr. Thompson has done, but to also see beyond what is, and to see the potential for what can be. We keep comparing ourselves to Germany when to do so makes Apples and Oranges seem more like twins. We deserve what we’re getting right now for having sat on our increasingly larger rumps and letting the powers-that-be take turns anally raping the world (I say we because in a republic, we must all accept responsibility for our leaders even though I personally didn’t vote for the sorry lot guiding our country).

I believe strongly that America will rebound from this, and I can only hope that the small contributions I make in my life will help guide future generations into building a greater tomorrow despite the constant setbacks granted by our “leaders”. However, I do also know that it is unbelievably naive to think that Democrats are any better than Republicans. I am neither of the two, and am fully aware of how few in each party voted against handing over unprecedented powers to the executive branch. I read here and other places about how horrible our political leaders are, but yet we have give them a 90% re-election rate. Until people stop bitching, and start looking at something other than the one-party-system (this is what we have, two sides of the same coin), we will continue to find ourselves in these situations.

I cannot give up hope that things will get better. And even if it doesn’t, I’d rather have my life taken then to utter the words “forever” when it comes to the worst of this great experiment in representative democracy.

  26. Linda  September 11, 2006 at 9:30 pm

In reply to MsQuick, I have this to say: We may indeed be doomed, however not ALL of us have lost our “will.” Not all of us bought this “mushroom cloud -imminent doom fear” proclaimations. At the time those of us who had the foresight to see through the smoke and mirrors were labeled “traitors” and invited by many to leave the country we love. A defeatist attitude will only bring you defeat…Remember, we are a country known for it’s freedom. Not the kind this administration rewrote, but the truest kind. Finally, besides the people’s voice lamenting in the void, we now are receiving aid from the media, which even late, is a welcome comfort. Don’t forget to vote and voice your opinions at every chance. People do listen, even if it takes awhile. In the end, Good always trimphs!

  27. Miss Grace  September 11, 2006 at 8:55 am

    Doug,

I think this is the best column you’ve ever written.
Are we ever going to get rid of these evildoers?

  28. Msquick  September 11, 2006 at 12:20 pm

Thanks for speaking truth. I think it’s too late for the U.S. People ultimately get the government they want and deserve, that’s what has happened to us. We collectively gave in to fear and the result is the government of evil we now have. You’re right, those in power should pay the ultimate price for their betrayal of the American people, but they won’t. We have lost our will to retain a government of the people, by the people, for the people. We have bowed to terror and, I’m afraid, we are doomed.

This is a potent Rant indeed. I wander if we are too late and too deep in our desire for big government to be able to suddenly even try to get the country back. I see too many people satisfied with the way the government has become the threat that we were warned about. We have seen how people cannot evaluate these disasters and simply wait for D.C. to tell us what to do.

The people of America have quit thinking and our individual freedoms are being taken from us. Where is the outrage? We have one way to react and that is to remove our House and Senate who blindly accepted the programs setting up controls over all of us for our own security. Will we do it?

In order to rid our country of these liars,we’d have to battle our true axis of evil: ignorance and apathy. There are too many citizens who are willing and eager to drink Bush’s koolaid. This group of mindless zombies has sold their freedom for the bread and circuses of “family values”.

It must please Bush to realize he didn’t even have to waste his koolaid on the other group. They’re more interested in American Idol than American politics.

There’s no apparent solution for the “faithful”, but there is one for the apathetic. I (almost) wish Bush would reinstate the draft. That’s the only thing I can think of that would get their lazy butts off of their sofas and into the streets demanding these lying warmongers be deposed.

  35. John Hanks  September 11, 2006 at 3:32 pm

If you speak the truth in plain language (without pleading or condescending) Americans will respond. Liberals have been academicized into trying to be fair with criminals and they take easy advantage of it. Let’s give up our anger and substitute a habitual black hatred instead. Our side has the truth and if the truth is spoken plain, people recognize it. This rant was a good example of its power.

  36. Gerald Sutliff  September 11, 2006 at 9:36 pm

  37. tomc  September 11, 2006 at 10:07 pm

I, for one, am grateful for the sheer incompetance of the Bushites. They are in trouble today, not because they have dishonored the country and subverted out consitution, but because they have failed at nearly everything they have tried (other than domestic propaganda and corporate welfare). We can hope that this will give us a chance to reclaim our country before it goes much further down this dark road.

  38. Claudia  September 11, 2006 at 10:11 pm

The rage and disillusion in this essay reflect feelings of betrayal, and quite recent ones since Thompson is a former Republican staffer. He’s come to see the current administration as the bad boys who destroyed America. He has some reason.

But he has not yet done the homework and review of former easy assumptions necessary. In time he will realize this is an old game, America was never pure, plutocrats have sent millions to die for their foreign plunder and were probably just as cynical in the 19th century as they are now.

There has always been good reason to warn us about “enemies foreign and DOMESTIC.”

Revolutions tend to come at a point when the People have exhausted all other methods of gaining access to and control of their government.

The Foes we face are far greater than the puppets setting in Washington, although that is a very good place to begin…it is time to rout them from office and it may take much more than pushing a button at the voting booth to do it.

  42. V  September 11, 2006 at 10:45 pm

Great article, Doug. But words aren’t enough to dislodge the Bush family and their hangers-on, the worst thieves, grifters ,liars and traitors to blow into Washington D.C. since the time of the Teapot Dome Affair. Nay, even that is not adequate comparison to describe what they have done.
We have a race to be run and to be won. We cannot be satisfied with merely taking verbal shots and smugly pronouncing our judgements on them.
We must keep running the race and not let up, even when the light is at the end of the tunnel.
A cornered rat will stand on it’s hind legs and lash out. It cannot afford to back down or it will lose. You may expect this and more from THESE rats, who do not have the redeeming features of their four-legged counterparts.
Things are likely to get rough…VERY rough.

  43. Old Senor 69  September 11, 2006 at 11:09 pm

I agree with the article but it needs more specifics supporting the basis to impeach this Administration.

I have never seen our nation so divided during my 69 years of existence.

Years ago when I first heard the Rush Limbaughs, Bill O’Rilleys, Sean Hennidys etc on the airwaves owned by corporate billionairs who pay Rush Limbaugh $25 million annualy, I realized divisiveness was on and the name of the right wing political campaign–full force. I guess I too, probably for less than what Rush is paid-say $50 grand, would spurt out the lies, hate, and half-truths over our nation’s airwaves.

Since none of these right wing malcontents can attack the issue they must attack those who disagree. Tactics include blaming past Presidents for Bush’s miscalculations and lack of of forgein policy and lack of attention to rational thinking. The world’s politics and idiology is not about cow roping or about owning part of a baseball team having not one winning season.

I have no expectations that Bush knows how to or can even try to claim victory in Iraq. He will let the next Administration make those difficult decisions.

  44. Zor  September 11, 2006 at 11:23 pm

    Thanks Doug.

“Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear — kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor — with the cry of grave national emergency. Always there has been some terrible evil at home or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it by furnishing the exorbitant funds demanded. Yet, in retrospect, these disasters seem never to have happened, seem never to have been quite real.” — General Douglas MacArthur, 1957

In all honesty nothing short of a revolution will stop the insanity that has engulfed our national government. its just to far gone at this point.

  45. Bill  September 11, 2006 at 11:32 pm

Excellent column. It’s refreshing to read something about these war criminals that tells it like it is, rather than couching it in niceties that downplay the horrors they they have committed in our names. I mourn for our country; I fear that nothing short of revolution is going to get our country back. Thanks for writing this excellent column.

Remember, remember the 5th of November
    Gunpowder, treason, and plot.
I see no reason the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

I made the mistake of asking the new chief of security at an unnamed US military facility what she would do if the day before the presidential election an order came down from the President suspending the election and ordering her to arrest all members of congress and the supreme court. I asked this question at a reunion dinner of WW2 Air Force Vets where she had just spoken about the security procedures business, etc, etc. Admittedly the question was not appropriate but I wanted to get a response from a serving officer in the military (she had just been promoted to Lt. Colonel). She would not answer the question and instead many people came to my table to attack me personally. Her answer should have been that she was sworn to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic. She had apparently forgotten her oath.
I went over to her later and apologized for any embarassment, but gently reminded her of her oath. She did not appreciate either act. I don’t think she would disobey the order. That is the most frightening thing of all.

    Doug,

In an age of dumb-downed journalism and opinionless corporate reportage, this column stands out like comet in the evening sky. You articulated what many have been thinking but have no access to (or are too cowardly) to print their opinions. I take off my ‘hat’ and bow down with thanks. Without a doubt you get an A+ on this column. Now the only problem is how can we make these opinions reality?

I searched message boards for people who care, and yearn for the days of a government “Of the People, By the People, and For the People. We’re up to about 500 now, and we split off now and then and create other groups to call our congress, write letters, and make sure our voices are at least heard. People are awakening, and we will regain control of our government. Instead of sitting back wondering how it will turn out, you have to be proactive. I urge everyone of you to find your voice, join a group, and PARTICIPATE. I have a Dream, and with the help of likeminded people, we will suceed.

I agree, but unfortunately with the current state of our government, this country will soon turn into a facist police state. This is the ultimate goal of the upper elite. The problem really lies in the Federal Reserve though. The goal of this “war on terror” is to help bring about the One World Government, with no borders. This is evident with our country letting thousands of people in through the Mexican border. If we are so concerned about our security, then why haven’t we closed off the borders!? ID cards and chips are just around the corner of our country’s future. Can anyone say mark of the beast?? If nothing is done about the Federal Reserve, then the American people will be seeing the truth of the last book of the Bible (Revelation) sooner than they think.

Mr. Thompson, this is probably the best, most complete, acurate and articulate rant I’ve ever read on the subject.. and I’ve seen many.

Bravo sir… and thanks for using the word “coup”

As what’s befallen us since 9.11 cannot be accurately described as anything but.

Some do and some don’t, some will and some won’t and it is easier to dispute and disagree than to fight and die. This country is not perfect but this forum is proof that it is far better than you would have us believe. You have ever right to disagree but I feel that there are far more people that feel that this country will survive this situation unbowed and with flying colors.

Keep up your complaints it makes us all stronger.

    Doug–
we need nothing short of a revolution of unarmed men, women, and children marching up to the White House, climbing the gates, and entering the White House, demanding that Bush resign. A revolution is needed…now.

Just shows that the left is completely unhinged…

    What a bunch of BS…

  60. keith  September 12, 2006 at 3:04 am

As sad as it may seem, rather than an abject failure, I’m now beginning to believe that Bush and his cabal’s plans in the Middle East have actually been a resounding SUCCESS…at least in their eyes.

For Bush’s apparent “stupidity” has resulted in continued, if not MORE turmoil in the Moslem world. And, unlike the USA’s first Iraq war where we went into battle with overwhelming force, “Field Marshal” Rumsfeld’s conscious decision this time around…to “ignore” the sage advice of his senior military advisors and deny field commanders with enough troops on the ground during the initial invasion of Iraq to actually do the job of securing the country after toppling Saddam…has virtually assured a long, drawn out war.

Likewise, Rummy pulled much needed troops out of Afghanistan (ostensibly to send them to Iraq) LONG before that country was secured from the Taliban. It alsmost seems like it’s Vietnam all over again, where the primary objective was to keep the war going as long as possible so as to insure the Pentagon’s most promising “up and coming” officers got a chance to add “combat time” to their résumés.

Bush and Rummy’s failure to “win the peace” in Iraq and Afghanistan has virtually guaranteed that our troops will be there for DECADES. For, with civil war now all but assured in Iraq, I firmly believe THIS is what Bush REALLY means when he tells us we must “stay the course” in the region. You’ll note that he never tells us exactly what that “course” is, how long we’ll need to be on it, or how we’ll know when we’re arrived.

The bottom line here is that, as always, NONE of this has ANYTHING to do with finding weapons of mass destruction, bringing “democracy” to nations whose people haven’t a clue as to what that word means, or protecting our “national security”.

Rather, it has EVERYTHING to do with keeping the developing Moslem world (that is the world outside Saudi Arabia) in a constant state of turmoil so as to protect Israel. This, in turn, creates the “need” to keep our troops in the region virtually indefinitely…to “protect” our most-favored-nation…Israel… (along with the Saudi royal family)…from being overrun by those horrible “Islamic fascists” (a.k.a. Bin Laden and his ilk) who now want to wipe BOTH of them (and us) off the face of the planet.

In that sense, this IS a holy war with the Christians and Jews (along with their willing allies) pitted against the developing Moslem world. THIS, my friends, is the REAL reason why our troops are now fighting (and dying) in places like Iraq and Afghanistan and why they will continue to do so for many, many decades to come.

What’s more, this approach ALSO guarantees that billions and billions of your and my tax dollars will continue flowing into the coffers of the hopelessly corrupt US defense contractors along with their various lobbyists and “think tanks” (not to mention keeping all those campaign contributions flowing into congressional campaign coffers from the now-fully-employed defense constituencies “back home”!). It’s a win-win for everyone. This is, of course, except for the beleaguered US taxpayer and our brave (mostly young) soldiers who are giving their very lives to support such blatant lies, shameful collusion and systemic government corruption.

Regardless of who actually caused it, Bush nonetheless used 9/11 as a pretense to invade Afghanistan and then Iraq. And mark my words, sometime before the next Presidential election; another manufactured “retaliation” by Israel against Hezbollah (or some other manufactured terrorist “attack” somewhere else in the world) will be used as his pretense to then invade Iran.

The “turmoil” in Iraq and Afghanistan is actually working out far better than even the neocons had hoped. It’s providing even more cannon fodder than they’d ever dreamed they’d have to both justify and then underwrite their master plan for the USA to eventually rule the world as the 21st Century’s new imperial power.

    The “left,” Patrick?

What’s revealing is how those who disagree with Doug’s rant – and the full agreement of so many more shown in the many comments – is that you and they NEVER attempt to rebut the many points. Rather, you smirk and sneer with nervous and faux superiority, all the while whistling past the graveyard….and it’s headstones of your own willing ignorance and connivance in the destruction of the Constitution of the United States of America.

So, Patrick, good luck in the camps – unless you are a REAL bhillionaire instead of just one more sad poser.

  66. lickspittle  September 12, 2006 at 3:49 am

Great column. Bush “administration” is so inept, they couldn’t find their ass with both hands. Dems have to win, so the impeachment/war crimes can go on. This nation was great in the 50′s-60′s as you remember. This, to me, is worse than the cuban missle crisis. This asshole, bush, and his handlers, have lied and plotted against the U.S. Those camps they are building are for us, the DISSENTERS.

  67. Lynda  September 12, 2006 at 4:07 am

Before you write off Bush and Co. as incompetents, realize their juggernaut of corporate rape of our Constitution has accomplished much of what they set out to do.

They fully realize that if Dems take control of either the House or Senate, then the White House will be in a world of trouble. Be sure Bush and Co. will fight tooth and nail, dirty or otherwise, in this fall’s election cycle to prevent losing either the House or Senate.

It’s literally a matter of life and death for Bush and Co. because they risk trial, conviction and sentencing for treason against our country and international tribunals for the war crimes they have committed.

Excellent column! This squatter in the White House is guilty of war crimes, crimes against humanity, war profiteering, crimes against the planet, violating his oath of office, perjury, stock fraud, election fraud, illegal use of federal monies and cruelty to animals. Oh, and he deserted his National Guard unit during wartime (a capital offense). The damage he has done to the world and this great country is irreparable. It is time for this arrogant dictator-wannabe to go and face his crimes – by whatever means necessary.

  79. mimirae  September 15, 2006 at 1:49 am

An excellent dose of the truth. Mr. Thompson, you became my hero when you wrote you were no longer predisposed to dismiss Bush..which to me is the entire white house, being complict in the events of Sept 11, 2001. It is obvious from their track record that absolutely nothing is too low or too reprehensible for them to use or do in pursuit of their goals. The deaths, both here and abroad, numbering in the millions mean little more to them than swatting a fly. Your are right, they ALL need to be held accountable..and the sooner the better.

  80. Sally  September 16, 2006 at 5:35 am

I just now saw you website. Not only are some of the Republicans traitors, lets add Ted Kennedy, John McCain, Hillary,Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer and the rest of these traitors giving away this country.Right now the only thing standing in the way of giving our country away to Mexico, and foreign workers are a few Republicans and 1 or 2 Dems fighting for us citizens. Look at the way the Senate voted for H B 2261. Read it and cry. The Democrats voted to give social security, jobs, a pathway to illegals who are here as criminals just for paying (maybe) a few thousand dollars. Please, check out who voted for the giveaway of this country and vote those traitors out, either Republicans and/or Democrats. Then pull up http://www.SPP and N.A.F.T.A. Superhighway see what bush is doing to this country with the trilateral agreement (bush fox martin) and the help of the dept. of commerce behind our backs. God help the United States of America soon to be North America Union.
