The author seems to have missed the significance of the 2000 presidential election outcome, notwithstanding winning the popular vote, the Republicans captured the White House via the Supreme Court. We have noticed a significant progressive shift, however, it seems to be more a negative reaction to the right wing Republican obstruction and general negativity.

    Someone stuck that subtitle on this article, and I radically disagree with it.

    It’s largely due to Republicans becoming wacky nutbars on matters like freedom of religion and total ignorance of science.

    Their ideas on free-market economics remain debateable.
