New York Rep. Peter King, a Republican who calls himself a “blue-collar conservative,  says tea party-backed members of the House Republican Caucus are trying to “hijack the party” and, in the end, hurt America.

King says increasing numbers of House Republicans — perhaps as many as a hundred — are sick and tired of “the Ted Cruz wing of the party.”

Appearing on MSNBC, King said Republican lawmakers are meeting Wednesday with the aim of resolving the stalemate that has forced a partial government shutdown and adds that many rank and file Republicans are “tired of this policy.”

King also hard harsh words for President Barack Obama for standing down from the fight.  The New York Congressman said he couldn’t imagine presidents like Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson or Ronald Reagan would back down during such a governmental crisis.
