America falls victim to the traitors and terrorists in Congress

By DOUG THOMPSON - A Capitol Hill Blue Commentary
September 30, 2013

Sadly, she has a lot to cry about.

Sadly, she has a lot to cry about.

For the first time in 17 years, America heads into the very real possibility of a government shutdown.

And, as happened 17 years ago, the shutdown will come at the hands of an unrealistic group of Republican office holders in Congress who have forgotten — as they too often do — that their first loyalty is to the people and not to the rabid right wing zealots who control their party and all too often place the United States of America in perilous times.

As the nation stumbles towards Monday night’s deadline like a drunken sailor, the zealots who have placed this nation at the brink of chaos pose more of a terrorist threat to the future of America than any AK-47 toting, Islam-sprouting thug.

Like most terrorists, the right-wing hoodlums who threaten the security of America misuse religion to try and justify their warped goals.  They claim a following that doesn’t exist while spouting a philosophy based on lies and deceit.  They pose as much — and perhaps even more — of a threat to the survival of America than any foreign enemy.

Because they claim to be Americans, they are — in fact — guilty of treason, subversion and crimes against the nation and they should be under arrest instead of walking the halls of Congress.

When the government last shut down, I was in Manila, working on an assignment for a client, and the front pages of Philippine newspapers and television stages treated the shutdown as an act of mutiny in a third world country.

Sadly, they were right.  The pundits in Manila saw the shutdown for what it was — not as an act of democracy in a nation that claims to have a government representative of the people but instead as an act of war against the government by a mutinous group of politicians more intent on power than service to the people who elected them to office.

What I saw then in another country — and see today even more — is the sad fact that America has become a laughing stock to the rest of the world.  We are a nation torn apart from the inside, controlled not by the vision of our founders but more so by the vary abuses of power that those forefathers fought and died to overcome.

America is not a Democratic Republic.  It’s a shadow of its former self, controlled by power brokers who serve the rich and powerful and who don’t give a damn about the future of a nation they were elected to serve.

If the American government shuts down tonight, every member of Congress who supported and voted for the actions that led to that shutdown is guilty of treason against this country and should be arrested and tried as traitors.

As true as your statement is Doug we can be certain that those traitors will never be held accountable for their treasonous acts against us the American people.

I have seen this before — it reminds me of a 3-year old throwing a temper tantrum and refusing to listen to reason unless and until they get their way. This is beyond disgusting. As you stated Doug, this is treason and a violation of their oath of office. It wouldn’t be so bad if Congress were the first to NOT be paid but no, they will get their pay while the members of our military will not. This is inherently malicious and self-serving.

Superbly stated Mr. Thompson. : )

Just watching interviews with ‘select’ Congressmen and women this AM concerning the impending shutdown was enough to make me heave over the rail so to speak.

This nation is in harms way!

Over time all three branches have become terminally corrupt; failing the American people in their sworn duties while treating our founding document as a ‘g-damned piece of paper’ whether said or unsaid.

We’ll weather this storm as we have in the past, but as to our future as a nation that’s ultimate question.

There’s millions of hard working Americans going to work this week who still earn their living the old fashioned way and don’t depend on taxpayer support. That alone is comforting.

It’s tragic that this now corrupt leadership falls under the category of ‘essential services’ and will get paid. Truly a sick joke on us, the taxpayers.

A government “shutdown” is much ado about nothing. The Pentagon, CIA, FBI and IRS are still going to be working. I could prove it if the “shutdown” happens by going to the closest office and taking pictures, but that would get me harassed and perhaps arrested by employees who are supposedly not working.

Most Americans would never notice a “shutdown”, if the newspapers didn’t run front page headlines of people who suffer minor inconveniences like the government tourist spots closing.

The NEXT election will show the republicans and tea party (note the lower case used…) that un-action and terrorist politics is to their eternal detriment.

If true Americans deliver a vote that eradicates both the conservative wing of the republican party and ALL the tea party in 2014, THEN WE HAVE DONE OUR JOB AS CITIZENS.

Well articulated! It’s so easy to hand out pain when you don’t have to feel it.

I also agree that the responsible parties should be arrested and tried for treason, but my question is who would be responsible for making the arrests? Plus, you might remember that Congress is made up of a large percentage of lawyers.

Good points as to arresting them being problematic.

My solution is to lock them in their house and senate chambers until a budget is passed …

… after removing all the alcohol.
