Oh, it's not just that, Ms. Price, it's that they believe that *everyone else's* decisions must reflect their own particular beliefs in some version/interpretation/selective reading or whatever of their copy of the Bible as well.

As an aside, I'd like to point out that while people call it 'homophobia', some say it isn't, really. They're not afraid of homosexuals, they just hate them. It's not homophobia, it's just being an a....... (paraphrase Bill Mahrer here)

Alternately, maybe it is homophobia - A terrifying fear that they themselves might be gay. The antics of certain anti-gay crusaders could lend that idea some credence. Who knew?

J.

PS - Personally, I think the government should butt out of marriage entirely. The term 'spouse' should be removed from all forms. If you want to file taxes jointly with someone else (or a dozen others), that's your lookout, but being married or not is entirely up to you and your priest. If you want someone to automatically inherit your estate, write a will about it. If you want someone notified when you die, write it down Marriage being a religious establishment, "Congress [or any state or local government] shall make no law..."

PPS - Wow. Either I fixed my web browser(?) or someone at CHB fixed their comment system, and now it doesn't have that peculiar scrolling behaviour anymore. YAY!!

I do not understand why anyone would ask the federal government to give permission on this subject. I realize how necessary some people feel that every decision they make must reflect their believe in Jesus Christ but why assume we all do?

I was told that unless I was a Christian I could not be a Republican. Okay, I became an Independent. No big deal except I have been a strong supporter of the GOP since 1952. That's a big deal.

Gay marriage sits right up there with asking the government to ban abortions. They prohibited buying alcohol at one time, prohibited women from voting and prohibited African Americans from being American Citizens. So the problem takes us back to the days of the Pilgrims. What does one have to do to demand individual rights?

This may be the most important election for America.
