Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney criticized the Obama administration in the wake of attacks on U.S. diplomatic missions in Egypt and Libya on Tuesday, branding as “disgraceful” an early response to the assault in Cairo and saying it sympathized with the attackers.

The assaults were linked to a video being promoted by an extreme anti-Muslim Egyptian Christian in the U.S. Protesters say the video posted on the Internet, a 14-minute trailer for a movie, attacks Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.

Protesters scaled the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo to replace the American flag with an Islamic banner. In the Libyan city of Benghazi, an American was shot to death as protesters burned and looted the U.S. consulate.

The U.S. Embassy in Cairo issued a statement saying, in part, that it condemns “the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims — as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions.” The statement, an apparent reference to the video, was posted hours before the American’s death in Libya was reported.

In a statement Tuesday night, Romney said he was outraged by the attacks and the death of the American consulate worker. He added, “It’s disgraceful that the Obama administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, in a statement released about the same time as Romney’s, condemned the attack in Libya “in the strongest terms.”

“Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet,” Clinton said. “The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind.”

In response to Romney, Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said in an email early Wednesday, “We are shocked that, at a time when the United States of America is confronting the tragic death of one of our diplomatic officers in Libya, Gov. Romney would choose to launch a political attack.”

Thank God Governor Romney is not the CiC. He’s quite ‘gung ho’ about war,, I’ll give him that.. a real ‘drop of the hat’ and knee jerk kinda fellow it seems.

Certainly not who I want in charge of our military at this juncture…. worlds too dangerous… quick draw Mitt is not the Sheriff this town needs.

Clearly, these Muslim fanatics were looking for any excuse to again poke the USA in the eye on the anniversary of 9/11.

However, an attack on a country’s embassy is an act of war and should always be treated as such.

I also find it telling that when fanatical Muslims post equally inflammatory anti-Christian or anti-Jewish rants on the Internet that such violence doesn’t ensue.

All of which begs the obvious question: Why are we expending yet MORE blood and treasure in feeble attempts to bring “democracy” to such low-life?

What is missing from Gov. Romney’s words is a basic use of diplomacy. His principles that he claims to have embedded in his soul and heart is the destruction of Islam. That is the only principle that runs his life. He does not possess the Christian principles of respect and love of humans outside his church, outside his race and outside his understanding of God. If there is an obvious enemy of American values, it is Gov. Romney.

I know how these Mormons look at others in America and after listening to his words, he has no clue of how others of different nations exist in their own world. This is a very dangerous man and to think he is running for the highest office in Americas is frightening.

Yesterday there was a discussion of how close we are to electing a man who is not qualified to lead in the capacity of an office under the laws of ther U.S. Constitution. He is qualified to be the Prophet of the Church of Latter Day Saints. These are not compatible offices. The leader of the free world must respect the individuals of America. Romney is out of control with his words and we should be aware of his potential actions.

Keith, you make a valid point. I am not saying that President Obama might be the best candidate for re-election but I must point out that Gov. Romney would destroy American freedoms in his desire to declar war on Islam. He sees the enemy of America not of any particular nation but the religion of these Middle Eastern nations should be destroyed. I do not believe that Americans will go to war against Islam as it would destroy our First Amendment, we have many American Muslims. .

My belief in the Separation of Church and State has been allowed to lapse which is the main force behind the Conservative Tea Party members. Romney takes it a step further and it will destroy our nation. He cannot respect diversity if it puts his church at risk.

Yeah sure Obama is going to announce to the world what we are going to do. Word is already out that a USMC Fast team has been deployed but Romney wants to trap Obama by saying 1. He is doing nothing…2 If he does something then Romney will accuse him of Leaking or using the military for political advantage.
Clever people would know those Romney’s tactics, we catch on quickly…

Another great pronouncement from the man (the Rom) who wants to begin another war…this time with Iran…his timing and what he says regarding foreign policy is slightly better than Palin’s.

Jim. I absolutely agree with you..He wants a war with Iran and if wins the election It will be a disaster. My God, he makes Palin look smart. He is a puppet for the Tea Party.

There are a series of protocols on actions acceptable during celebrations and catastrophes that should be clear by now when one has been a Governor. He should be disqualified after his actions this week. It was one of the things I learned at business college for my preparation as an assistant to a CEO of any corporation. Many corporations have them listed in their application for employment. I cannot believe that a CEO of Bain Capital had no knowledge of this in dealing with higher corporation people and/or government positions.

It could be that these protocols are ignored by the LDS leaders. Something is very wrong with Romney as he cannot be property programmed for leadership.. What has happened to the GOP? Could it be they take all their candidates from the churches? Even Priests and Rabbis have better manners than Romney. He is a street fighter and certainly no gentleman.

In many cases men can locate a person familiar with the system of knowing how to handle situations when they occur. Romney believes he doesn’t need training. He has self-programmed himself into a Commander in Chief with the manners of kitchen help.

I believe it was Amy Vanderbuilt who wrote the best book on manners and prococols. I’m certain there must be a chapter on political leadership in America.

Libya is about as dysfunctional as a nation gets and the simple fact is they failed and failed miserably to protect a foreign diplomatic mission. I would not say the Libyan government was compliant in this but they exactly do not appear to be the most reliant of political entities. Does a phrase from a catchy tune “The shores of Tripoli” stir any ideas about historical reference?

During WWII nationals for the participants who were “trapped” behind now enemy lines were exchanged. American, Japanese and German diplomats, businessmen, tourists and various wanderers were exchanged.

Bush also used a measured response as has Obama but that changed dramatically.

Can Americans trust Mitt Romney to make the right decision on which citizens to assassinate?

What’s with this “Sam Bacile” character? He goes on ABC, claims to be Israeli Jewish, then Jewish-American, but then others involved with the film claim he is Arab Christian. And he apparently dubbed in the anti-Islamic dialog in post production so that all of the 80 people involved with the film had no idea the message it conveyed. Maybe Sandy still has some Hollywood contacts to get the scoop on this story? There is a lot of speculation in the rumornet that this was/is a Mossad/CIA/DIA psy-op provoking attacks against Americans to rally Americans into war with Iran and Syria.

Gosh Woody, I haven’t a clue who this dude is. I would say he is the run of the mill schit stirrer. I agree that there is a lot of trouble shooting needed to stop this plan of a war with Iran, What Israel does is their own business. What if we pack up all our troops and quietly come home?

Libya is under a new political group and we should be patient before we threaten to blast them off the face of the earth. . America has a lot of enemies and our handing them all billions of dollars is not winning us anything. I think we should start by bringing all our troops home from Afghanistan and then sit tight and see what comes next.

It hurts me to think that anyone would try to destroy Obama. These are not good Americans. The GOP has become unhinged and has so little left in their corner of values. As a strong Republican for so many years, I am embarrassed by the party as it sits today.

What we don’t want is Romney as Commander in Chief. I can’t help but think of Monty Python goes to war. He is the Black Knight,.
