Mike shows his homophobia

Republican Presidential wannabe Mike Huckabee appealed to basic GOP homophobia Thursday by attempting to link homosexuality to bestiality and promoting constitutional amendments to force evangelical lifestyles on all Americans.

Trailing in the polls, Huckabee obviously wants to appeal to Republican intolerance and ignorance on gay rights issues and advance the repressive agenda of the GOP.

Huckabee also tried to link abortion to slavery, another ploy of the radical right wing of the Republican party.

Both moves are obvious moves to try and appeal to the GOP base in Saturday’s South Carolina primary.

Reports AFP:

“Marriage has … as long as there’s been human history, meant a man and a woman in a relationship for life. Once we change that definition, then where does it go from there?” he asked in an interview with online “Beliefnet” magazine.

“Well, I don’t think that’s a radical view, to say we’re going to affirm marriage. I think the radical view is to say that we’re going to change the definition of marriage so that it can mean two men, two women, a man and three women, a man and a child, a man and animal,” he added.

“The Bible was not written to be amended. The Constitution was,” he said, announcing his intention to amend the document if he were to be elected president in November to ban abortion and establish that life begins at the moment of conception.

Leaving it up to individual states to outlaw abortion within their own borders is not enough, he said.

“That’s again the logic of the Civil War — that slavery could be okay in Georgia but not okay in Massachusetts. Obviously we’d today say, ‘Well, that’s nonsense. Slavery is wrong, period. It can’t be right somewhere and wrong somewhere else.’ Same with abortion,” Huckabee said.

Huckabee won the Iowa Republican caucuses earlier this month, the first contest in the race for each party’s nomination to run for the White House. He is in second place behind Arizona Senator John McCain in opinion polls for Saturday’s primaries in South Carolina.

LFTL – As you recommended, I finally saw Idiocracy last night. Very Funny and very scary at the same time. I fear we are devolving into an Idiocracy.

  2. LurkingFromTheLeft

    Not a problem –

…given recent ‘events’ between the two camps, I do think hell will freeze over before HRC would choose him –

…BUT selecting him is the only way she’ll get my vote –

…yes, he’s not perfect but none of us are (even us Virgos) – why do we demand/expect it from a candidate?

…the man had PLANS – firm plans – not just babble –

    Brainwashed by the Bible?

Yeah, I have to say it looks like these FUN-DUH-MENTALISTS can’t think for themselves. If one has to turn to religious text for answers, there is something dreadfully wrong here!

How many times do you suppose the Bible has been rewritten (amended) to suit somebody’s preferences? These jokers would not have survived the crusades, they’d have been severed heads impaled on pikes in front of somebody’s castle! LOL!!!!!

  4. Carl Nemo

My apologies for being overly sensitive LFTL, but I’ve got to be careful when I know JoyfulC has me in her gunsights; ie., asking me for an opinion concerning any candidate…:))

If Bill Richardson were chosen as Hillary’s V.P. candidate, it would be a smart choice on her part and would soften my revulsion for her candidacy just a skosh.

I like intelligent well-spoken men and women, and to me Richardson is one of them. Of course he’s not perfect, but who is in these highly interesting times. I viewed him as an intelligent, can-do, competent administrator, more than qualified for the presidency, but as I’ve mentioned in some of my posts, America’s defacto brain is the “boob tube”, their powers of discernment being quite limited. Researching candidates on their part is out of the question.

    NOT AT ALL!!!

    …Haven’t you seen my posts!?!

…I’ve been a fan of his for years and actually made a contribution to his campaign. Actually doubt I’ll feel that way about anyone else again!

…his presence on HRC’s ticket MIGHT make me able to stomach voting for her – as I said ‘here’ before, did I just type that?!?

…I felt quite sad when I got my NYTIMES email alert he was dropping out – actually said NO out loud!

…SO, you read me wrong! I was just taking comfort with another intelligent soul! There are a few of us here that were SOOO in his camp!

  6. JoyfulC

Well, he (Richardson) wasn’t a media darling. What do you expect?

I have this recurring kinky fantasy that, when the primaries are said and done, 2-3 independents emerge and, with little or no coverage by the MSM — just grass roots support, end up dominating the race.

Too much to hope for? Probably. Let’s face it, our biggest problem is our fellow voters, most of whom would rather shop than think.

  7. Carl Nemo

    Yo LurkingFromTheLeft…

Your obviously facetious response to my evaluation concerning Bill Richardson is noted.

I responded to JoyfulC’s inquiry as to who I might like as a candidate and did so.

My question to you is why do you and possibly others find Bill Richardson so repugnant…?

I realize he wasn’t all that attractive to the voters, he being somewhat a frog-eyed “wonk” expressing himself with details etc. as to how he planned to turn things around.

Kucinich is cursed too in that he’s awfully short and looks somewhat like an “elf”, but he too has some serious plans on how to address this nation’s serious issues.

It seems to me that people are enamoured with the idea of having a rerun of the Hillary, Bill and Chelsea show or even give it a try with ol’ John McPain…Mr. “bomb, bomb, bomb…Iran”…no?! Either of these candidates will actually do quite well as leaders of the failing welfare/warfare state, once “our” America now their AmeriKa.

We have to remember that Huckabee speaks for a huge portion of the GOP. These are the Christians who do not know right from wrong and need all these things laid out in the Constitution so the Federal Government can handle all our laws. We all have heard that without Jesus Christ there are no moral laws to be found in America. It has ended up that too many Americans simply pray for forgiveness and they are saved. How many millions of Americans are being treated like mindless animals following the head sheep which they now demand be put in the White House? Rasputin must be pleased at this brainwashing.

  9. LurkingFromTheLeft

    OH NO!

    …another Bill R admirer –

…why did ‘we’ as a country discount the person that had the most to offer us?

  10. Carl Nemo

To be quite frank JoyfulC; I don’t like any of them. They are all a bunch of talentless corporatist camp-followers as far as I’m concerned.

Bill Richardson didn’t fly, but actually had the best realtime credentials being the governor of a state;ie., New Mexico, who has to deal with real issues, real problems, real people on a daily basis. State government doesn’t have the luxury of a printing press as the U.S. government in order to bail itself out of tight financial situations.

He also has a Hispanic background which would have made him an ideal candidate to address the immigration issues in an intelligent fashion once president. When interviewed concerning this issue he seemed to have a balanced approach. Rest assured rounding up 12 million plus Hispanics, putting them in leg irons then escorting them “Trail of Tears” style, as under Andrew Jackson’s administration back to Mexico isn’t going to fly…!

Also he stuck to his principles;ie.,he promising to get us out of Iraq asap and minimizing our footprint in the region while intensely pursuing diplomatic solutions to the ongoing problems.

When he expressed himself, he did so with detail and didn’t beat around the bush, but the electorate seemingly is more enamoured with star personalities such as Hillary and even John McCain, a legend in his own mind. I guess hopefully for them, the Hillary, Bill and Chelsea show for four to eight more years will make for an enjoyable big screen experience on their 42 inch LCD monitors…no?! The Clintons do have star appeal to the less than discerning masses and that seems to be very important, if not the most important aspect of a candidate in our times.

It’s not really a “code” as much as a set of “guidelines”, really.

Peace without freedom is still slavery.

  12. Carl Nemo

This is the best news I’ve heard recently. So this assuredly means bye-bye “Huckleberry” Huckabee. I swear this guy reminds me of Gomer Pyle, played by Jim Nabors on the Andy Griffith show many years ago. Shucks, wee doggee, we got us here a religious gas station attendant who wants to be Prezdint…no?!

Yep, all we need is some religious “nut” wasting our precious time trying to survive as a nation post all the grief the Bushistas have caused during the past 8 years. He’s just another duplicit rethuglican with a “bible-in-hand”…!

This article confirms my theory that America has devolved into an “idiocracy” and evidently at least some of “we the idiots” continue to gravitate towards Elmer Gantry “carny” types like Huckabee for our salvation.

“Step right up, step right up ladeez and gentemen, I havs a plan for yu…Praise the Lord!”…not!

  13. Janet

Sorry, Mike, I don’t share your religious belief that life begins at conception. I also don’t share your religious belief that wives should be submissive to husbands. I don’t share any of your religious beliefs, nor do I share your religion. How dare you try to impose your religious beliefs, miaconceptions and fairytales on me or the millions like me who do not share your beliefs. It’s scary to imagine that there are enough people in this country who are so ignorant to vote for a Huckabee or his kind. Mike – this election is for President of the United States, not for President of the Christian Church.

This country was founded on the freedom of religion (or no religion if that is one’s choice). There is this Taliban type faction called evangelical Christians that have been misinformed and misled into believing that we all should be living by their religious beliefs.

Had the Bible not been amended, there would not be any new testament. The Bible is only paper that was written by men. It is full of stories, propaganda and mandates reflecting the politics of the times. It has been rewritten in many languages and translations and meanings have changed drastically. To view the Bible, especially the English version, as the word of God, is ludicrous.

Rewriting the constitution is not open to discussion.
