Obama said he would keep Congress in session “for as long as it takes.”
“The President feels Congress cannot go home with unfinished business,” a White House aide told Capitol Hill Blue Thursday.
Ironically, both sides support extending the tax cut but Republicans want to pack the bill with unrelated issues and Obama is threatening to veto any bill that isn’t clean.
The veto threat makes some Republicans happy because it gives them an issue they think will play with voters.
“The fact that the President doesn’t like it makes me like it even more,” says Ohio Republican Jim Jordan.
The House plans to vote next week on a GOP bill that includes funding for a pipeline from Canada to Texas while debate continues in the Senate, where dueling tax plans were rejected.
Obama wants an agreement and a clean bill.
“Get it done,” he said. Thursday. “If not, maybe we’ll have a White Christmas here in Washington.”
