I wonder if a Republican President tried to cut funding for Social Security by 50% if Democrats in Congress would object? The typical REAL working middle class taxpayer may get enough each week to take the family to Mickey D’s for burgers and fries. I guess that will enable McDonalds to keep some of those new hires from this summer employed. Odds of letting the cuts expire later?
About the same as letting all of W’s tax cuts expire. When Republicans say “some” of the proposals in Obama’s Jobs bill may have merit the idea of tax cuts and destroying Social Security once and for all are what they’re talking about.

It seems to me that Obama is simply attempting to use this as a re-election ploy. If he were serious about cutting taxes, would he not give Americans a permanent income tax cut? He does now realize that cutting taxes is the way to help the economy. Why doesn’t he just do that, ie, help the economy long term. Instead he is asking Congress to pass an as yet unwritten bill that will be at best a temporary fix by providing only temporary jobs and at worse put the USA further in debt and weaken the nation. It seems he only wants to get past 2012 and then let the nation sink further into decline.

Don’t I remember hearing President Obama say that Social Security was secure? Does he speak with asterisks that one has to search for to seek the truth?
