Hi logtroll,

I don't think of conventional marriage as unworthy of public support via the tax base; but, when you think of it though, it might be a good idea to end civil marriages which is linked to lining the pockets of bottom-feeding divorce attorneys.

Based on the high level of failed marriages it seems the ritual of getting 'hitched' is both foolish and spendy. It surely is cheap to get married, but very spendy to part. When I see young women with their wedding planners, I always add some 'dark humor' by asking if they have their divorce papers filled out as an addendum. They get somewhat squiggle- lipped, but sure enough many of them are now divorced as I predicted within less than two years along with a child. Ouch!

The cause of most divorces are money problems, immaturity and infidelity not necessarily in that order or a combination of the three. As far as gay/lesbian marriages the odds are even greater for a breakup because it's a synthetic marital relationship. I know and have known gay men and women and they seem to enjoy hopping from one partner to another. Then again, maybe marriage will 'settle them down' a bit. / : |

My wife and I will have been married 46 years this August. We didn't have children, therefore no grandchildren. Maybe that's the secret to getting along in a longterm relationship. It's those doggone lil' anklebiters and associated money problems that does most modern marriages in. We're certified dinosaurs soon to become extinct. : )

I understand you to be saying that you would ban all marriage? That's a novel and ballsey proposal! Have you run the numbers?

Looks that way Woody. This same sex marriage crowd won't be ecstatic when their cities are going up in flames due to their government's profligacy relative to irresponsible spending and adventuristic wars in far off places. The American people have their priorities all screwed up.

The big problem with same sex marriage is that it's creating a "special class of citizens" who want to enjoy all the benefits of conventional marriage vows and the social contracts associated therewith. It first starts with affirming a simple ritual, but eventually makes its way into the tax base.

This country cannot afford the luxury of providing such benefits to all. This means that anyone of the same sex can get married then file taxes jointly, adopt children, utilize medical benefits designed for families and worm their way into an already toppling tax base nationwide. People simply don't get the fact that the luxury of engaging in 'eccentricities' costs big bucks in the end.

No matter, this nation his headed to the bottom; not if, but simply how soon. : |

Note: I'm not anti-gay, but am against any social contrivance that will eventually stab the rest of the populace in the wallet taxwise.
