Eliot Spitzer Scandal: ‘Client 9′ Director Uncovered Scandal Secrets

By Huffington Post

The prostitution scandal that took down governor Eliot Spitzer is well worn territory,
but the explanation behind it had some intriguing holes that Academy Award winning filmmaker Alex Gibney wanted to investigate.

His new film, ‘Client 9′, which is out in theaters, takes a hard look at the rise and fall of Eliot Spitzer, and how he went from being the “sheriff of Wall Street” to another political pariah.

In an interview with CBS News, Gibney explains how there was more below the surface of the scandal that needed to be investigated. ‘The timing just seemed odd,” Gibney said, “that just as Wall Street markets were melting, so too did the sheriff of Wall Street disappear from the scene.”

Gibney believes that Spitzer, in his role as a pugilistic liberal, made some very powerful enemies that would later come back for revenge. The GOP especially saw Spitzer as a threat, and, Gibney claims, had operatives in the Republican party whose sole job it was to take down Spitzer

Because he did create such powerful enemies, I think his enemies did go after him, not only enemies in business but also in the federal government.”
