Cheney tried to provoke Iran-Israel war

US Vice President Richard Cheney has considered provoking an exchange of military strikes between Iran and Israel in order to give the United States a pretext to attack Iran, Newsweek magazine reported in its Monday issue.

But the weekly said the steady departure of neoconservatives from the administration over the past two years had helped tilt the balance away from war.

One official who pushed a particularly hawkish line on Iran was David Wurmser, who had served since 2003 as Cheney’s Middle East adviser, the report said.

A spokeswoman at Cheney’s office confirmed to Newsweek that Wurmser left his position last month to “spend more time with his family.”

A few months before he quit, Wurmser told a small group of people that Cheney had been mulling the idea of pushing for limited Israeli missile strikes against the Iranian nuclear site at Natanz — and perhaps other sites — in order to provoke Tehran into lashing out, the magazine reported, citing two unnamed “knowledgeable sources.”

The Iranian reaction would then give Washington a pretext to launch strikes against military and nuclear targets in Iran, Newsweek reported.

When Newsweek attempted to reach Wurmser for comment, his wife, Meyrav, declined to put him on the phone and said the allegations were untrue, the report said.

A spokeswoman at Cheney’s office told the weekly the vice president “supports the president’s policy on Iran.”

Excuse my French but is it any surprise that this worthless piece of F*ck wanted to get away with this BS.

The Double-Panty waisted Democratic Party dosen’t have the courage to stand up against the Neo-Cons, so Rah Rah for MoveOn who has the intestinal fortitude to stand up to worthless pieces of fecal matter like Big Dick Cheney, the Chimp & all the rest of the Neo-Con Stool Samples.

This is Cheney’s last stand to start a war,
Not that we can afford to go to war, we can’t even afford this war which has busted the treasury. The Dollar is going down the tubes and Cheney cares only for war mongering.

Will anybody remember the old US in the History books. I realize that the winners write the history. Or will we just end up on the dung pile of old empires that lost there way.

    Can anybody answer this question?
Why do partisan politics over rule sanity.
How can politicians vote againist conscience, killing and stealing are againist the laws of the land and our country has been ROBBED

War is good for business. It makes lots of money for the big businessmen and those in Congress who are stealing as much as fast as they can.
War also allows the pres and vice pres to dump no-bid contracts on their former companies and on their good buddies so that when they leave office, if they leave office, their bank accounts will be stuffed fuller than a Fuller Brush Man’s sample case.
This does not address the bulk of their stealing–the billions in cash that they stash in offshore accts and wash back to the USA.
Bush is too stupid to have thought up all this. Cheney did it and told the pres what to do and how to do it. IF they leave office in 2008-2009 they will retire as the richest two theives who ever inhabited the White House.
And worse…Cheney’s actions to try to get Iran into the conflict are nothing compared to his allowing the 9-11 attacks to take place and his planting of explosives in the World Trade Towers and the building next to them.
The man is a raving maniaical killer, he deserves impeachment, a fair trial, and a sloppy hanging.

    Wurmser?

    Who is surprised?

Can we just drop all of the pretense and adopt Israel as the 51st State?

Amazing that these people can act like this then call Iran an “evil empire”, and people buy it.

As far as I have heard the only thing that could be remotely considered evil that Iran’s leader has said is that
    1. He believed God would destroy Isreal.
    2. If attacked he would retaliate against Israel.

I have a bumper sticker that says, “Cheney/Satan
in ’08”.. More and more people stop my vehicle and ask where they can buy one.. But they are behind events, as always..
It’ll be war with Iran—-and Martial Law will do away with any elections where the electronic voting machines can’t be hacked into..
If the US strikes Iran without the clearest of reasons, such as missile launches with radar tracks coming from known sites in Iran, the US will be at war with Muslims for hundreds of years..
But is that not what was foreseen in, “1984” ? Perpetual war to control the populace, with pre-emptive strikes against individuals by the Thought Police..

“If the US strikes Iran without the clearest of reasons, such as missile launches with radar tracks coming from known sites in Iran, the US will be at war with Muslims for hundreds of years…”

—But ONLY because it is HIGHLY PROFITABLE.
If any of these were REAL WARS they would be fought to WIN, they’d be over and done with and the post-war rebuilding and re-establishment of sovereignty would take top priority.

But there’s no profit in short decisive wars that end in a Marshall Plan that sets countries back on the path to security and stability….no profit for Cheney and the rest of the MIC.

One way or the other, we WILL be at war for hundreds of years, so that the elites can continue to maintain tight control over the teeming, uneducated, naive masses who worship authority the way they were taught to, and as the old rebels die off the folklore will be expanded and massaged until Bush and Cheney enjoy their last decades as heroes, lauded daily during the Two Minutes Hate.

When one country is always trying to instigate wars and the other is talking “peace please” then which is the Evil Empire?

Those who have spoken of “turning that desert into glass” should inspect their own souls.

Interesting that Newsweek is printing this information now. Cheney has always wanted to attack Iran. What has prevented it is not what Newsweek states, it’s the insurgency in Iraq. He and the rest of his idiot buddies actually thought they could occupy Iraq and it would all be over. I don’t believe any of them has ever read a history book. Their plan was to take over Iraq and then create the pretext to take over Iran. Ha! What a bunch of uneducated nincompoops!

Every christian nation in the world has tried to occupy the muslims and failed. They will fight ’til the very last one of them is dead before surendering to christian rule. We will never get that oil in peace. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper to just buy it by the barrel on the open market. And that is the thing that really amazes me.

They seem to have the idea that the government is an endless money pit and we can keep borrowing forever. But we are already broke and in the position of having to borrow more because of their eliminating the taxes on the rich and special feedbacks to the OIL/MIC industry that shows record profits evey quarter because of it. The money we are borrowing now won’t even make the payments on the money we owe. And Cheney wants to start another war? How would we pay for it? We can’t. We’re already busted and the baby boomers are going to hit social security in just a few years.

People better wake up and realize that the war and all the other issues they are being fed by the polititions are not the problems to worry about. It is the financial condition we are in. If something isn’t done and done fast we are going into a world wide depression of a magnitude unprecedented in history. And any plan to avoid it is going to include a dramatic increase in the taxes everyone pays. The only way to get out of or reduce a debt is to pay the bills or get the lender to cancel the debt. Good luck on the later with China. Maybe they’ll accept a few states as payment. No need for war, they’ll just buy the US. When you add it all up, foreign lenders already own this country. We better bring our military home to protect us from bill collectors.
