Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar mom who lost a son in President George W. Bush’s failed Iraq war, will run for Congress against Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Sheehan, who just recently said she is dropping out of the antiwar movement, is mad as hell at Pelosi and other Democrats for not delivering on their campaign promises to bring the troops home.

California: War Protester Challenging PelosiCindy Sheehan, announced her candidacy for the House seat held by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Ms. Sheehan, left, a peace advocate, said last month that she intended to run against Ms. Pelosi if Ms. Pelosi did not move to impeach President Bush by July 23. Ms. Sheehan said Ms. Pelosi, a Democrat from San Francisco, had “protected the status quo” of the corporate elite and lost touch with people in her district, most of whom want American troops out of Iraq. Ms. Sheehan cited her son, Specialist Casey A. Sheehan of the Army, as her inspiration for the bid. He was killed in Iraq in 2004. She said would run as an independent on a platform of universal health care and making college affordable. [Washington News]
