I think the time has come to face facts, we are in for deep trouble!

I wasn’t overly optimistic that the stimulis money was going to right years of financial wrongs, but I was hopeful. It hasn’t worked, and the economy is already starting to show signs of a return to “the dark side” and probably in a worse way than before.

I haven’t stopped preparing myself for a very rough ride since about 2006, I hope most of you have been doing the same. I think the economy is right on the edge of an awfully deep abyss and we are about to jump in.

Hang on, you ain’t seen nothing yet, things are about to get down right nasty!

Yet they had no trouble passing the “emergency” military funding for Iraq and Afghanistan. We could save a trillion a year ending that whole regional war in the Middle East, but it isn’t even discussed. No, instead you and I must do with less so bankers and the military can have more. Sounds like fascist military dictatorship to me.

Is the lack of unemployment benefits the cause of the problem? Will increasing unemployment benefits bring back all those lost jobs? Will the unemployed just live off the government (us) for eternity?

It’s not about remembering it, nor about fear. It’s about making the same mistakes.

The panic of 1819 and the earlier depression of 1920-21 were models of how NOT to interfere with the markets… the economy righted itself in both instances and moved ahead in short fashion.

Had Greenspan not interfered in the dotcom bubble with negative real interest rates and then had Bernanke stood back from paying banks to buy money, as well, housing would likely be flushed out by now, we’d be several trillion dollars to the good from where we are, and a real recovery would be possible. As it is, all that has happened is the illigitimate expansion of debt and taxpayer suffering. The next stimulus will only bring more of the same.

Pass the bill. Americans are hurting now and need our extension. It will hurt the economy more when Americans who can’t find jobs are not paying bills, and losing more homes. PASS THE BILL!!!

As Yogi would say, “it’s deja vu all over again.” Think 1937-38. The same fears kept the Depression alive for 3-4 more years. GOP laid out same arguments then.
Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
