It&#039;s his view that there is a leak about 1000 feet BELOW the ocean floor and that this leak is irreparable and all they can do is catch as much of the oil at the top of the column, and drill other wells to relieve the pressure on the leaking pipe.

His analogy is to a leaking water hose.  If you have a hose that leaks and there is no nozzle on the outflow end then most of the water goes through the hose and not through the leak.  But once you start trying to restrict flow at the end of the hose the pressure builds up inside the hose and the liquid blows out of the side.  And the pressures are immense, according to this guy:  10,000 psi.

He says also that there will be further degradation of the pipe under the sea bed, leading to more leaks along the pipe and further decreasing chances of stopping the leak.
