“Tourism is dead. Fishing is dead. We’re dying a slow death,” she added. ...extract from article

Epitaph for a nation too it seems.

This is what 30 years of "blue sky", minimally regulated "pirate capitalism" has achieved for the citizens of this nation.

Reagan/H.W. Bush pushed for massive deregulation of airlines, utilities and a host of other industries that are better left regulated only allowing a reasonable rate of return set by public utility and industry sector commissioners.

We see what has happened by letting the purported and imagined unseen hand of the marketplace, along with so-called 'free markets' and competition has gotten us; ie., cozy relationships between government regulators of stocks, banking, food production, energy production and the list goes on. The result: blowups in the insurance, banking and stock sectors, once viable airline companies cratering in the past twenty years, mass food poisonings, defective and dangerous toys for kids, air pollution, poisoned ground water and now oil well blowouts in the Gulf killilng an entire ecosystem along with the lives of people that depend on a healthy marine environment.

On and on this evil nonsense goes while our complicit crimpols in Congress and our equally responsible good ol' boys we've put in the White House during the past 30 years are either cheering the corporatists on or giving them a free pass when they screw up all the while lying through their teeth that we're going to see 'change we can believe in'...NOT!

They will launch some more useless, toothless Senate investigations or 'study groups' ad nauseum ad infinitum while ordering evermore donuts and coffee, scratching their butts, yawning, watching the clock and the calendar so they run home to Mayberry, USA and hopefully lie their way back to another term in office...no? / : |
