According to his bio he was off the air for about 5 years out of the last 50.  During some of the remaining time he was relegated to color commentator for a WFL team.  Give him the benefit of the doubt and say he has 40 years of interviewing.  1000 interviews a year comes out to 3+ interviews a day.  If you figure in a five-day workweek and time off for honeymoons (all eight of them) it comes out to about five interviews a day.
