The high-profile launch of Sarah Palin’s “Real American Stories” on Fox News Channel should be retitled “Manufactured American Fantasies” after two of the subjects she suppossedly interviewed for the debut show say they were never contacted by Palin or Fox.
Keith’s spokesman Wednesday said the country music entertainer, a registered Democrat, was not interviewed by Palin and was unaware that he was a featured subject on her initial show.
Earlier in the day, actor-rapper LL Cool J said Fox was “repackaging” an interview from 2008 and claiming it was an appearance for Palin. The performer said Fox’s claims were a “misrpresentation.”
Fox later announced it would delete the LL Cool J segment from the program.
The channel claimed it had spoken to Keith’s representatives, who responded that the network was lying.
Elaine Schock, Keith’s publicist, told The New York Times:
I have no idea what interview they are using. Toby’s talked to Fox a number of times, and I had no idea that this was going to be on Sarah Palin’s special. Fox has never contacted me — not now, not when they were putting this together, not at all. I have no idea what they’re using.
When asked about Fox’s claim that they contacted her by email, Shock said she searched her emails and found nothing, adding that “I never got an email or phone call from them.”
Fox has since modified their promotional materials for Palin’s show, saying it is “hosted” by the former Alaska Governor and Vice Presidential candidate and claiming the network never suggested she would actually interview the guests.
However, an earlier press release sent out by Fox News claimed Keith, LL Cool J and former GE chairman Jack Welch “will speek to Palin for her inaugural episode “Real American Stories” on April 1.
April 1, of course, is also known as “April Fool’s Day.”
