Thanks Woody for the "Stamp Act" comparison. I was aware of the Stamp Act of 1765, but only in broad brush strokes, so I pulled up the Wiki link and read a synopsis of the act and its impact on the colonies. Wow is all I can say concerning the eerie parallels you refer to including the purpose of the tax; ie., to defray the cost of British adventurism in North America. I'd say it was definitely the catalyst that led to the American Revolution.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stamp_Act_1765

Possibly this health care version of taxation without "true" representation will end up in a political revolution that will change the land for all time possibly even a Balkanization of America with segments seceding from the Union. Fourteen states are filing suit against the government with the possibility it may be as many as 36.

Political talking heads such as Jeffrey Toobin, one of CNN's duty legal 'experts' have already dismissed the suit as frivolous and will be cast aside under the Commerce clause of the Constitution. With our compromised SCOTUS relative to political balance and their recent ruling that corporations can now be involved in politics he may be right, but we shall see.

One thing I do know the big "O" finished off his political career along with dozens of Congressional Dems with his sleazy fashion of getting the bill through via an Executive Order compromise.

Thanks for the comparison. Good material. : )

This will come to be known as the Law of Unintended Negative Consequences... fewer Docs, resulting in lesser care, among the many that will occur. But not to worry, it was never about better healthcare, only consolidation of Dem power. Amnesty for illegals and voting rights for felons will be next.

This could be the modern equivalent of the Stamp Act. The government has taken something we all use, health care, and told us we have to buy a false, invented product, health insurance, essentially a promise to pay for medical services, in order to get that health care or else we will fined and/or imprisoned. The King's Stamp Act took something everyone used, paper, and forced everyone to pay to put a false, invented product, the official stamp, upon said paper, or face fines and/or imprisonment. Seems eerily similar...

Yo Glen Gantzer,

"This is a very Christian and moral decision by our government to bring healthcare to our nation!" ...extract from post

What country are you referring too with this comment. It surely can't be the U.S.; but, possibly Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Holland, or New Zealand...no?! / : |

All you'll get from this bill is the forced 'privilege' to purchase insurance that most can ill afford in order to achieve some measure of healthcare. Rest assured there will be no issuance of cards similar to Medicare in the coming weeks and months to come to allow these 32 million potential newly insureds access to medicine.

You have corporate medicine and "Big Pharma" now franchised to clip you annually for fat juicy premiums is all. They're smacking their greedy corporate lips that they'll have a host of forced insureds in the years to come.

Enfranchised taxation by a bought and paid off government is a "wet dream" come true for the corporatist/fascists. : |

Are you really sure that this will benefit "the people"? In today's world, I rarely see any bills pass that truly benefit the people. I think this will just be another payoff for the insurance industry. They are the ones that will truly benefit from it and "we the people" will again be screwed! Sorry, but I no longer have any faith left that our government can do anything for the people.
