A drive-by look at the vehicles used by the country’s governors, according to an Associated Press survey:
_ Jeb Bush of Florida travels in a Ford Escape hybrid, the only hybrid reported in the survey. Bill Richardson of New Mexico plans to purchase the same gas-efficient vehicle later this year.
_ Twenty-nine governors and the mayor of Washington, D.C., travel in sport utility vehicles, with 12 using Chevrolet Suburbans.
_ Four governors travel in Suburbans partly fueled by ethanol, and John Hoeven of North Dakota travels in a sedan partly fueled by ethanol.
_ Twenty governors travel in sedans, ranging from Ford Crown Victorias to Lincoln Town Cars.
_ There is no official car for Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco, who relies on state police vehicles. Frank Murkowski of Alaska relies on state troopers’ cars for official business; otherwise, he drives his own sedan.
_ Richard Codey of New Jersey declined to respond to the survey, citing security concerns.
