President Bush on Thursday named his Yale classmate and former business partner in the Texas Rangers baseball team to be a member of the board of directors of the New York Committee on the Olympic Games.

Roland Betts will serve on the board if New York City is chosen to host the 2012 Olympic Games, the White House said in a statement. The International Olympic Committee is expected to select the host city this summer.

Betts is founder and chairman of Chelsea Piers, a limited partnership that developed and operates the Chelsea Piers Sports and Entertainment Complex in New York City. He also is founder and president of Silver Screen Management Inc. and a director of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., which is working to rebuild that section of New York City.
