As long as Bush continues to allow BIG business to get and use illegal aliens for labor then the subject of a 1000-mile long [and now] 'doubled' border fence is a pointless exercise - unless, of course, the original discussion about enforcing south-of-the-border security to keep THEM out wasn't really the objective. Maybe the original purpose of the fence has always been to keep US in.

"Upon arriving in Yuma, Bush met Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. The two took a quick look at the "Predator," an unmanned plane that border officials use to monitor the region."

I feel sorry for the poor little "Predator" drone. He's being surveyed by two the most dangerous predators on the planet;i.e., two of the sub-species "homo sapiens republicanus predatorus"...!

I'm surprised the small craft wasn't named "Liberator" or "Freedoms Choice" or something that would be more Orwellian and appropo in our times... :))

I simply do not get it. It would seem that everybody thinks this is yet another thing that WE get to do with no help from the other party (Mexico). Without them, however, its going to continue to be a failure and money pit (not unlike some other administration undertakings which are failing).

The biggest source of foreign currency that Mexico has is their workers in the United States. The biggest concern in the United States are with the REAL criminals (drug runners, rapists, etc) sneaking across our borders. What we have, therefore, is the classical Mexican standoff and nobody is actually fixing the problem. Mexico cannot afford to and our laws are not helping. It really is time for us to get together, with Mexico, to allow in the workers we need and, I suspect, Mexico would be more than happy to work with us in that regard and actually help stop the bad guys (instead of printing brochures explaining how to cross over safely).

In other words its time to stop the political crap, sit down with Mexico, and craft something that makes sense and helps both countries. Seems like a no brainer to me although its really unlikely in political season and, it seems, its now ALWAYS political season and common sense has taken serious flight.
