Thanks Doug for the comparison. It's true and my worst fears are that before this man's term is up, he's going to engage in activities that will make George W. Bush seem like "Rebecca at Sunnybrook Farm".

I still remember on his inauguration day how he and George exchanged a mutual "wolfish" glance for just bit, both smirking as these two duopolists were thinking "mission accomplished". Obama is simply the relief pitcher for more of the the same game.

Both parties and their elected leaders are working feverishly to accomplish an agenda; ie., to reduce the U.S. to broken husk of a nation, simply a "banana republic" with a population of desperate tax slaves controlled by draconian statist policies and enforcement agencies who's collective powers would make the German Gestapo of yore envious in terms of their efficiency in both controlling and crushing the will of the people...! : |

We had to know it was going this way when they announced they would close Gitmo but didn't do anything to end torture of prisoners. They seemed to think it was the place and not the policy that had everyone in an uproar. It's the policy stupid!

I'd hate to see how Obama scored on his tests seeing how he claims to be such a knowledgeable Constitutional scholar and all. Perhaps he only learned about it to get around it?

Obama is under endless pressure in addition to endless smears such the frequent accusation he is giving into terrorists to back down.

Most of the pressure on Bush was to become less conservative.

When he doesn't back down and instead fights like refusing to let Fox News in a press conferences, even David Corn, a stanch progressive, claimed he was being repressive against Fox News

Cheney and Co. is constantly looking for a “see I told you so incident” where granting civil liberties to a suspect leads to him being able to attack. And one might assume that al Qaeda might be willing to try to manufacture such an incident to give to the Cheney’s who are more likely going to help al Qaeda create a more Balkanized world.

Doug I wish you would more vividly remember your thoughts when you made you blog posts against partisanship.

Obama is being pressured relentlessly to make the wrong decisions, a good example is,
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/11/23/politics/main5751465.shtml

I wish he would stand firm, instead of trying to be the go-between. Cheney etc. are looking for a Willie Horton incident. And perhaps al Qaeda or even some Right Winger pretending to be a terrorist might give it to him.

I am frustrated on how much he is submitting. But like with Jimmy Carter he is for the time being overwhelmed. But I still have my fingers crossed that he can make this a more tolerant civil and even more torture free world.

Surprise! Surprise! NOT!

Surely you jest, Doug. You've been in and around D.C. politics long enoungh to know the game.

I knew all along there would be no "change we can believe in"

Let's see. Let me count the reasons... one, two, three and a [congressional] total of 535. The presidential election process is nothing more than a [celebrity] popularity contest awash in more sweet smellin' lies than a port of call red-light district.

The president is little more than a figurehead and mostly a scapegoat... a sacrificial lamb offered up every four years to appease the hot-button happy dumbed-down mob.

The real power and control is found in the out-of-the-way meetings filled with a stagnat out-of-touch congress that enjoys a RE-ELECTION rate typically exceeding 80%. With the same old same old boy network in charge... is it any wonder the interest of the people are dismissed... the morning after.

I didn't expect much from Barack Obama and I got less. If nothing else, I expected he -- and the democrats -- would exploit the Bush regime's war crimes, attacks on the Bill of Rights, "yadda, yadda, yada" to crush the Republican Party -- cast them from any hope of power for decades -- instead, they became the Republican Party.

Obama is worse than Bush? Ummmm... well, duh! Wait til 2012. The next guy after the beige Bush's one term will be worse yet. It is way past too late. If I could afford to blow this popstand I would have been gone long ago. Now all I can do (to preserve what little sanity I have left) is sit back, fire one up and remain bemused. This country, much like myself, once had great potential. Both have wasted it. Or, maybe, just for shits and grins, you understand, I'll move to Veneauela and join the coming "insurgency" as the U.S. brings "democracy" across the border from Colombia.

That's because opur government is pretty much on cruise-control at this point. Does any one really think the president has any real power to affect change?

Not if he has a D or an R next to his name.

If you did, Obama has dispelled that theory in short order.

The last one that made that miscalculation ended up on a slab in Dallas.
