Down for the count

Turns out The Rant is human after all.

A combination of exhaustion, dehydration, anemia and bronchitis have felled The Rant and the docs order a serious regimen of bed rest and TLC from Mrs. Rant (non-impact of course).

The Rant will return when he is able to sit at a keyboard for more than 15 minutes at a time.

  2. Fred   December 11, 2006 at 6:11 pm

Thanks to your previous investment in rant, we may have eeeked out a little progress of late. Take a well deserved rest cause no doubt before long we will need you more than ever! Rest up your ranter.

  3. Larry   December 11, 2006 at 6:14 pm

I had a version of the bronchitis going around and it is a real bear. I recommend you go to a doctor and get the works–antibiotics, steroids, an inhaler, and some codeine cough medicine. Throw in Vitamin C and wild oregano oil for good measure. Just a recommendation. I did these things and I hadn’t seen a doctor about sickness for many years. Take care of your sweet self — there is a sweet self there, right? And thanks for all your good work.

  4. Rob   December 11, 2006 at 6:18 pm

Who gave you permission to lay around and goof off? LOL Seriously, I hope you enjoy some down time and get rested up, there are fights still a-brewin’ out there!

  5. Stavo   December 11, 2006 at 6:22 pm

Keep the faith, drink plenty of liquids, eat healthy and get plenty of bed rest. Your world is depending on you to get healthy again.

You’re a very important person to us out here. You Rant the things we want to shout. We are energized by your rantings and move to do great harm to neocon thugs all over the web (re: change-the-1st-Admentment Newt Gingrich). There will be no joy in BushDipLand about your setback. We will take up the sword-of-Rant, the gaunlet-of-dissent, and continue to impale neocons on their feeble concepts and strident measures of repression and conformity. We all wish you a good rest and recovery and a chance to enjoy the Holidays. Get well, important friend. The rational world awaits your return. I hope you are on top of this situation. All of us miss your tartness and refusal to accept the generic oatmeal the passive media tries to shove down our throats.
We need you, so rest and recuperate. The bastards will always be there; the defiant therefore are needed. Get well.

  8. jericho   December 11, 2006 at 7:42 pm

I’ve followed CHB for years. I learned so much about passion, honesty, and the need to look at boths sides of an issue. Thanks. Take care of yourself, Doug.

    Dear Mr. Ranter,

Please let yourself be taken care of;I’ll bet you’re a pain-in-the-ass to take care of. My sympathies to Mrs. Thompson. (8~)

Don’t fret, there’ll be lots of outrages going on when you’re up and charging about.

Had an employee that was about 60 years old and never got sick. He chewed, believe it was ‘snuff’. Anyway, the dentist told him, “No respectful germ will live in your mouth”. Yuck! really do not recommend but just thought get a laugh and help to get you well, Hope that is soon. Will miss your candid

Rest up, get well and get back ready to hassle the bastards when they straggle back into town in 2007. There is still a lot to be done to help reclaim our country! Keep up the good work.

Your political insite and ability to use that knowledge for the betterment of our society is what makes this site so important!

Merry Christmas to you & yours!!

  23. Lillibet   December 12, 2006 at 3:16 pm

    Get Well Quicker than Quick!!

You are and remain in my thoughts and prayers. Ditto Mrs. Rant.

I hope you’re feeling better soon. Take good care of yourself. We’ll be missing you.

Keep smiling and laughing. There is so much to laugh at these days. Especially in Washington. That is when you set aside the horror show. However this is a time for lightness of spirit.

    Be well.

  24. Gretchen Robinson   December 12, 2006 at 5:05 pm

    Dear Doug,
seems to me you have gotten yourself overwhelmed before. You can’t keep doing this to yourself and your body. Get the book Overdoing It by Bryan Robinson or something like it and stop trying to be superhero with superhuman powers. It’s a 12-step book, a needed corrective in the case of many of us in this country which runs on addictive behaviors. And don’t let things get so bad that you end up hospitalized.

  25. Stoney Browning   December 12, 2006 at 8:28 pm

Drink hot green tea with LOTS of honey in it, as well as LOTS of lemon!

The green tea contains anti-oxidants, and so does the lemon. Honey is bacteriastatic, and bactericidal. (That means bacteria can’t live on it, and it kills the ones that are already there)

I would also recomend that you get the endorphines going with some Mell Brooks DVDs! “Blazing Saddles” always works SO well for me! You’ll love it!

  26. SuZQ   December 12, 2006 at 10:15 pm

Boy, I thought I felt lousy this holiday season – you take the prize, Doug! Hope you’re up and your old ornery self again real soon!

  27. Wobba   December 11, 2006 at 1:09 pm

    Feel better, Doug!

  28. The South Point   December 11, 2006 at 1:29 pm

Take care of your health, please.

  29. Sandy Price   December 11, 2006 at 2:18 pm

By all means, regain your health and hurry back!

  30. David Williams   December 11, 2006 at 3:45 pm

Somewhere deep within the labyrinthine bowels of the White House,a pale and frustated fifth tier bureaucrat, whose job it is to monitor subversive web sites is rubbing his nasty little paws in glee. These days, there is very little joy in Bushland so wannabe neocons must take their feeble pleasures where ever they can.(Non impact of course) So Doug,do as doctor says, rest and recover your amazing energy so you can return to fight another day.Be well. David Williams in beautiful Western North Carolina

  31. Peter Kinder   December 11, 2006 at 4:32 pm

Yes, by all means rest up and take those nasty vitamins. I’m sure when you emerge from the Blue Ridge you’ll find much to rant about. In the meantime, get better and enjoy the holidays!

  32. henry blair   December 11, 2006 at 4:32 pm

get up, you lazy slut…we need you!

  33. Mary Bushnell   December 11, 2006 at 4:38 pm

Take time to smell the roses!
Meditate….it changes the brain waves and is like taking a nap. Do it several times a day.

    You are a wonderful human!

    Be better soon.

  34. Doubtom   December 11, 2006 at 4:49 pm

The trouble with being an iconoclast is that you’re not seen as meriting any rest or time off. There are worlds to conquer so get off your sickly ass and do the bitchin for us! You started this ball rolling and it’s your job to keep it going.
The price of fame is an ever growing demand from a thoroughly unsympathetic public, which is something you should have learned long ago. You reap what you sow– and stuff.

  35. marew   December 11, 2006 at 5:28 pm

Take care. Get well quick pleeeeze. We so look forward to you saying what we all feel.

  36. carol   December 13, 2006 at 6:09 am

Sending you big hugs and best wishes for a speedy recovery. I sorely miss your rants.

Drink lots of herbal teas lavishly laced with lemon and honey, lots of Vitiman C(chewable is my favorite) and for goodness sakes don’t give your wife a hard time.
