A former GOP Georgia congressman is "fixing" to give McCain "a run for his money". Although the media is downplaying and/or diverting attention from it, former Republican congressman Bob Barr is running against John McCain for the presidency as a Libertarian. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/05... Personally, I lean more towards voting for a governor or general for president rather than a politician, but former Congressman Barr has some interesting perspectives on how things should be managed and accomplished. For one thing, senators and house reps aren't in typical leadership roles. They don't really manage anything --- except themselves and they have a language and process all their own. Another reason NOT to select a politician is that our current congress has one of the lowest popularity ratings ever in our nation's history. In addition, congress has a poor history of resolving urgent issues. Instead, members all too often bicker and finger-point among themselves and seldom do expediently what is in the best interests of the majority voters and taxpayers. Barr, a six-term conservative congressman, recently has split with his GOP party on civil liberties and privacy issues, and despite pleas against it from his former party, has determined to run against McCain. http://www.bobbarr2008.com/home/skip/?s=0618 Some political analysts have stated that "He has the potential to become for the presumptive GOP nominee what Green Party candidate Ralph Nader was to Democrat Al Gore in 2000." Will Barr win the presidency? You probably can "bet the farm" that he won't; however, he could take away important votes from McCain, especially in states like Nevada, Colorado and his home state of Georgia. Still, it will be interesting to see how the maneuver will play out. ---

Hey JerZGirl, I am all for
Submitted by Klaus Hergeschimmer on July 17, 2008 - 12:45am.Hey JerZGirl, I am all for 'Spoilers', anything to make the two party system and corparate media have conniptions and denouce the so called 'spoilers'.
So I look forward to Bob Barr running as well as Nader who I will vote for. Sir Obama has shown his true colors to fullest possibilty by voting to give Telecoms retro-active immunity. Obama tucked tail and ran -Obama the Traitor.
I'm a recovering Democrapper and I will do everything in my power to influence and rattle the Democrapic parties cages.
Oh, there is a few 'good' Democrats -I can count them on one and a half hands worth of digits.
I will vote for Cindy Sheehan and attempt to make life hard for Fancy Pants Pelosi. Fancy Pants Pelosi is starting to act like she is interested in Kucinich's impeachment drive...she's trying to look 'converted' and
make people think she's 'seen the light'. This is so typical of Democrappers in the last few months of run-up to the presidential vote. Fancy Pants Pelosi!!! -were not going to fall for your pants suit tricks.
Fancy Pants Pelosi's idea of being a liberal is running around her Pacific Heights Neighborhood in her Stevie Nick's nightgown singing along with her iPod to 'Rhiannon'.
Hairy Reed the traitor..he is even worse then Fancy Pants Pelosi for giving Telecoms retro-active immunity.
No More Lexus Liberals -VOTE THIRD PARTY!!!
No More Lexus Liberal Democrat Party TRAITORS!!!
I was a Perot supporter
Submitted by Sandra Price on July 18, 2008 - 9:16am.I was a Perot supporter because he exposed the trade agreements that brought with them a trade deficit that forced many American Corporations to leave our nation. What has Barr brought to the table?
We had Ron Paul stand up for our civil rights but it went nowhere. Barr represented the bill that marriage was only between a man a woman. He also got behind the Patriot's bill that put many of us in fear of chains. Do I see any Candidates for Congress standing up for individual rights? In my opinion the Libertarian Party is not firm enough in their agenda items on any civil rights.
There is no one standing up for American rights in this election. The Evangelicals have both sides of the aisle pandering to them and this has turned off many independent voters. There is nothing wrong with the Bill of Rights and bending them to use the Evangelicals as a term of reference is not what our founders had in mind.
I fully expect to see the American Flag show up with a huge cross implanted somewhere on the flag. I regret I ever read anything about our founders and their desire for freedoms over any government force. Now we have the government leaning into religion over the bill of rights.
The day the LP demands the separation of church and state will be the day they become a powerful third party.
While I personally lean more
Submitted by woody188 on July 18, 2008 - 9:53am.While I personally lean more Libertarian than Republican or Democrat, they have been mis-represented and it is becoming as bad a word as liberal in political speech. Certainly there is nothing wrong with being libertarian, liberal, or conservative. But the meanings have been twisted by the corporate media and politicians so that they are practically bad words.
I recall years ago how the corporate media showed some libertarians' passing out toy guns to inner city youth and how upset the kids parents were. Or passing out cigarettes to protest smoking bans. The libertarians were taken out of context and made to look like fools.
It's these types of corporate media smears that prevent 3rd party candidates from ever being taken seriously. They ignore the broader message and concentrate on the lunacy of a few media stunts. Without the stunts, there would be no major media coverage. Seen plenty of McCain and Obama commercials, but no Barr or Nader ones.
I still wonder how it is that everyone I knew voted Perot, but he still didn't win. I think the voting fix was in back then, like it is today. It just wasn't so obvious because we didn't have the internet available to show us we were not alone.
