Web Capitol Hill Blue

May 8, 2008 - 2:18pm

...And maybe a shot or two.

I stumbled upon Capitol Hill Blue some five years ago, having caught a link to one of Doug's Rants from another website. Since then, I have been a frequent visitor and avid reader.

This election year, I decided to step off of the sidelines and into the game, mainly because for the first time in my life, there was a candidate not only worthy of my support but one that actually energized this heretofore political atheist (sorry Obamamaniacs, it isn't him).

I visit many political sites, ranging from Huffington Post to Politico to the Heritage Foundation (not who they pretend to be), but have only become a member of this one. OK, I actually signed up at the Heritage Foundation, but that was just to get their free pocket Constitution and Declaration of Independence. I also will endulge in brief forays to some mainstream sites, for nothing more than to get a pulse on the propaganda.

Although I am a non-religious constitutional conservative (I hate that I should have to preface conservative with non-religious) if I must be labeled, I believe that all positions should be weighed and my thirst for understanding and insight outweighs the paradigm of partisan politics.

Lately there has been some posts regarding deleted content concerning racism and bigotry. At first I questioned the wisdom of this policy to some extent, although not the authority of the site owner's right to do so.

Of course I didn't see what the posts contained, but I wondered if maybe confronting and condemning this thinking in an open forum wouldn't be better than simply ignoring it. Recently I have concluded that indeed this isn't the case. These people are beyond any form of rationality or morality.

Yet there remains one member that appears to be immune from the rules set forth that the majority of us are bound to obey. Perhaps the viscious and unwarranted attacks on Christians is somehow more acceptable than if those same attacks were made toward Jews or some other religion. To myself, it is not. I feel obliged to defend those as I will defend any others that are unjustly persecuted for the sins of a few bad apples.

And for that, I was personally attacked repeatedly and without even the least amount of evidence of an understanding or acknowledgement of the purpose or meaning behind my comments. Just a blind and thoroughly offensive personal attack. I'm more than capable of defending my positions, but there is no defense against the insane ramblings of the deeply disturbed.

Why this is allowed to continue on a daily basis here is beyond my comprehension, but I have personally had enough of it. So please Doug, if you haven't received my e-mail request to cancel my membership, please do so at your earliest convenience. Strike me from your rolls so i'll not be tempted to log back in. I'll still stop by to read, but I won't participate in these forums after this post.

I would like to take this opportunity for some final thoughts.

To all the Ron Paul supporters here, don't give up or give in. We look forward to the convention and the very real possibility of revolt within the party. Already Missouri Republicans are breaking their own rules and trying to ban more than 300 Paul delegates to the national convention, so keep fighting, we are making a huge difference.

To all the Clinton supporters, if any remain, good luck with that.

To all the Obamamaniacs, it was rather fun getting under your skin. I would say good luck, but who needs luck when you've got hope.

If there are any McCain people here, we'll see you at the convention.

Of course, to my special friend here, a link and some advice. After thirty-four years defending the rights of others, perhaps it's time to change tactics or give it up, it's not working. Here's that link...

Oliver Willis on McCain

Does he sleep with snakes as well?

To the rest of the CHB community, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and wish all of you farewell and good fortune.

Grif -- I want to address

Grif -- I want to address the post by Jenifer D because I deleted it.

First of all, I hate deleting posts but accepted the responsibility as moderator to make sure people follow the rules. I am very tolerant of people's personal opinions either way.

Jenifer reposted in its entirety an article from the UK that was spoof about the KKK supporting Obama.

This was not the first time Jenifer has done this or she has been warned about doing this. Printing copyrighted material without the permission of the author is not permitted.

So regardless of the content, I was within my right as moderator to delete it and sent a note to her as to why I deleted it. This is what I did. Sometimes though I have found people dont read the notes.

As to the content it was questionably borderline but I have seen some of the posts that Doug has deleted for similar content so I have to use that as a guideline.

PLEASE NOTE: Had she just posted a link to the humor and then made a comment about its content, there would be no problem. It was the illegal reposting of copyrighted material that got the matter deleted.

People have been warned here again and again about posting copyrighted material in its entirety. I don't see any other way to get around it but to just to what I did...delete it, send a note why and ask them to repost using correct format.

As to content, as I said, it takes A LOT of really vile stuff to make me delete a post due to content, but I will if it is really outrageous over the top stuff.

I hope this clarifies this matter once and for all for everone who blogs or comments here at CHB.

Now as to your feelings about comments toward Christins, I too am a bit weary of all of us being lumped in together into one crazy group. As I mentioned in another blog, have you ever noticed that the most conservative sect of any religion is always the craziest?

Hope you stay around or at least keep reading, we got some wild and wooly rides ahead of us (very big grin).

PS -- You can always contact me at my website...click on this link: Iraq Memorial Quilt.

Just click on the email link at the bottom of the Home page.

Good luck my friend at the Genuises of Propaganda convention. Hold up a sign on TV that says "Hello, Pollchecker" (grin)! Pretty Please?

Well okay. I can clear up

Well okay. I can clear up the assaults on Christians. Don't leave Griff. I will. It took me many years to locate what has taken the core out of American Values. It is not the people, not the political parties but this power hungry group of Falwell/Robertson/Dobson group of Christians. You see a different force here and I see a disaster. I have done a lot of research reading on this once quiet movement. It is my opinion and mine alone.

I warned of Bush back in 1999 and faced the same opposition as you now face me. There is nothing more for me to say about it and nothing more for me to say here.

I will log out this afternoon and wish you well.

I just don't understand why

I just don't understand why we just all can't get along.

You know, there was a day, before the Bushes and the Clintons, when we did get along pretty darn well.

Anyone remember any of that?

This is all pretty extreme action over a post deleted due to copyright infringement.

Perhaps that is a perfect example of the problems we have in our country today......EXTREME ACTIONS!

I wanted out of the Army

I wanted out of the Army too, later I came to see the scars as quite hansom. Do we let the messenger live, Undoubtedly.

That is the very reason we are free to debate.

Griff, I'm sorry to hear

Griff, I'm sorry to hear that you are leaving. I wish that you would reconsider. To surrender to the shrill, repetitive ranting of one obsessed poster is in effect to allow yourself to be silenced; you grant that person what they most want - one less critic of their unsubstantiated claims.

I notice that such posters, where ever they may be encountered, seldom if ever have the weight of much fact or logic on their side. Instead, they most often profer their unsupported opinion(s) as matters of fact. When challenged as to a matter of fact, they will then employ every logical fallacy in the repertory - especially the ad hominem, the change of subject, and the appeal to anonymous authority - in an attempt to win by bluster that not obtainable by reason.

So, stand your ground and answer the specious argument with demonstrable fact. Sooner or later, that person realizes that they cannot win an argument of innuendo and unsupported opinion agains brutal facts. Even more so, the rest of the forum rather quickly learns who is able to argue reasonably and who must resort to invective.

Most sincerely,

T. J. Flapsaddle

I already logged out,

I already logged out, Flapsaddle. But you always have to throw the last stone, don't you? Yes, I am a shrill when I see so clearly what is damaging my nation. I am emotional, not cool and muddy like you. I will be the one who stands my ground but not here. You won again. You threatened to follow me and do harm. This forum will so see that you are only words, and they are not always rational. You believe that throwing this final insult at me will win you respect here. It will for a while.
