It is becoming more and more obvious (at least to me) that the Senate rule requiring a vote of 60 Senators to invoke cloture is so antithetical to the needs and desires of the American people that we need to do something about it NOW. There are two ways to do this. The first way is to insist that our candidates for the Senate answer the question: "If you are elected to the Senate would you support a resolution to do away with the cloture? Please explain the reason for your position." And then vote accordingly for or against the candidate. The other way, much more difficult, is to amend the Constitution to allow super-majority restrictions only if authorized in the Constitution. That would have the benefit of making the rule permanent. It particularly incenses me to have the minority party go around campaigning about the "do-nothing majority" when, in fact, it is the obstructionists who are the guilty party. We the People elect them.
Submitted by Sandra Price on April 26, 2008 - 10:45am.We the People elect them. Yes, we are sheeple and we have closed all education in the Constitution in our schools. This is a second generation of ignorance regarding the rules of the Congress.
We all have one Representative and two Senators and we elect them based on other issues such as abortions, gay marriages and death with dignity.
That 60% that offends you has stopped some very bad legislation.
Remember Ted, America is a Constitutional Republic not a Democracy.

The sooner we scrap this failing,nonworking "Constitutional Republic" the better for all of us!

Submitted by griff on April 28, 2008 - 2:53pm.No, it is the move away from the republic, and toward a democracy over the last hundred years that is the cause of all our ills. You should learn the difference between the two before you call for the end of one and the institution of another.
