Sen. Hillary Clinton (Reuters)

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's positive rating has dropped to a new low of 37 percent in an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released on Wednesday.

According to the poll, the New York senator's positive rating slid 8 percentage points in two weeks and she had a negative rating of 48 percent in a week where she admitted making a mistake in claiming she had come under sniper fire during a 1996 trip to Bosnia.

Clinton's Democratic rival, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, also saw a slight dip in his positive rating, to 49 percent from 51 percent, the poll found.

Clinton, who would be the first female U.S. president, and Obama, who would be the first black president, are in a heated battle for the Democratic nomination to face presumptive Republican nominee John McCain in November's election.

The survey was taken after Obama gave a speech last week on race in America and rejected racially charged remarks by his pastor in Chicago of two decades, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

NBC said 32 percent of respondents said Obama "sufficiently addressed the issue" and 26 percent said he needed to say more about the Wright controversy.

More than half of those surveyed -- 55 percent -- said they were "disturbed" by the videos of Wright that were widely circulated on television and the Internet, the poll found.

In head-to-head matchups, Obama and Clinton were even at 45 percent. In general election matchups, Obama led McCain by 44 percent to 42 percent and McCain led Clinton by 46 percent to 44 percent.

When asked which candidate could unite the country if elected, 60 percent said Obama, 58 percent said McCain and 46 percent said Clinton.

The poll of 700 registered voters was conducted on Monday and Tuesday and had a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points.

NBC said its pollsters oversampled African-Americans to get a more reliable cross tabulation on questions regarding Obama's speech on race.

"More than half of those

"More than half of those surveyed -- 55 percent -- said they were "disturbed" by the videos of Wright that were widely circulated on television and the Internet, the poll found."

When I read this type of survey pap it disturbs me, because it indicates as I suspect, that the American electorate are nothing but "chickenheads" collectively speaking.

Instead of focusing on Obama's words they become obsessed with what a pastor of a church he frequents said in a handful of sermons. I do believe Obama would have challenged the guy if he had been in attendance of those said displays of somewhat negative sermonizing on behalf of Wright.

If they are so obsessed about hatred issuing from preachers mouths then they need to focus on what Falwell said when he was alive, Pat Robertson and host of these "hit in the butt with a bible" mattoids that evidently have the power to sway the opinion of those with less than sterling intellects that frequent their sermons.

We're doomed as a nation for sure with this continual kneejerk response from the unwashed masses.

In summation maybe they "deserve" Billary or McPain as their next president. They can then compare their Wright's "hate sermon" notes on their way to Camp Halliburton...! : |

I think Hillary should quit.

I think Hillary should quit. Not only has she run a terrible campaign which was nothing more than making up lies about her own "experience" (scandal of the Bosnia trip)etc., but also the worst examples of mud-slinging, backstabbing, innuendos and insults many people have ever seen.
If she is that ruthless that she would ruin her own party to win, and in the process do her best to ruin a good man's reputation (Obama), then we don't need her. I hope the Democratic Party turnes their back to her when she tries to maneuver herself into position as Democratic nominee.

Hi Kimiko Shoda Spot-on,

Hi Kimiko Shoda

Spot-on, succinct thoughts concerning Hillary's lack of character; ie., those traits which are not what we need in a our next president...!

We've already suffered 7+ years too many under the boot of two pathological liars; ie., Bush/Cheney and the minions who support their efforts to deceive "we the people"...!

I think that it is

I think that it is completely naive to believe that the polls can't turn on a dine in Hillary's favor...it could happen within the next 48 hours...(or maybe less).

We have a large population of people in our country who is easily motivated to change their minds with each swift blow of policial wind that media selects to spin, exploit, and sell to this particular group of voters. These voters change their minds with the rise and fall of the sun because they don't have a genuine clue about candidates or issues or campaign platforms...or anything else other than gossip and whoever has the most celebrity star status of the day.

All the media chose to show

All the media chose to show was Wright saying "God damn America" totally out of context. When he complains of institutionalized racism that has occurred over the decades he is accused of racism. "Black America" has every reason to be enraged. "White America" should thank its lucky stars I'm not black. I think black people in America have shown stunning restraint in light of what they are put through every day. Watch the whole sermon and tell me what Wright said that you disagree with. Did not the United States drop atomic bombs on hundreds of thousands of civilians in Hiroshima or Nagasaki? Or was that just a black man's racist lie?

My prayer is that the

My prayer is that the American people will wake up and actually Use their brain to investigate who would be the better candidate for president. All Shillary is doing now is making more Democrats think they should vote against a party that will put up with her lies and dirty tricks to win. I would never judge a person except on their own qualities, NOT who the pastor of their church is,, those worda are NOT Obamas and the media that keeps repeating what the old woman says over and over is abetting the garbage she spills in her wake where ever she goes. Let the talking heads SHUT UP and report what is truly news and not keep spilling trash, the same trash we have heard enough of. I also pray Obama refuses to get caught up in her nastiness and ignores whatever she says and tell the people what he would do as president.. THAT is the important point of this whole damn mess.

With the scandals over

With the scandals over Ferraro, and now Hillary's lies about Bosnia (not to mention her conducting most negative campaign of all the candidates), I don't understand how She can stay in the race.
I think it would be best for her to save face and exit gracefully, rather than destroy her own party changes for the election this November.
Oh, but I forgot. The driving force behind Hillary isn't to be elected to serve, but to be elected for the POWER.

Hillary remains clueless as

Hillary remains clueless as to why she (and Mark "the Rove" Penn) continue to drive people away. (Hint: Don't attack good people, don't lie and . . . don't lie to protect the preceding lies you used against good people.)

Brilliant strategy Penn . . . adopt the same vile campaign tactics used by BushCo and his fascist brownshirts . . . at a time when such tactics have pissed off more people in the world than ever before. Ding, ding, ding!!
Don't these people "get" anything? Talk about a campaign strategy train-wreck!
Yikes!!

That's THE problem Pangaea.

That's THE problem Pangaea. The vast majority don't get it. If they did, we wouldn't be having this discussion. So the problem becomes, how do we get them to "get it"? Let's get to the roots. The strategy should never be and should never have been how to "prove they're wrong" because it's obvious they're wrong but that's not the problem. The problem is no "proof" has any meaning for "a believer". They don't need facts. They don't need proof. They're not "fact checkers". We're not speaking their language. That's pretty clear to me.

So that's why that approach can never work. But I believe that having their noses rubbed with foreclosures and escalating gas and food prices and tighter credit WILL (thank the lord) tighten their shorts just enough (I hope) to begin to get their attention before their privates get squeezed out of existence. But then again, come to think about it, maybe that's just nature's way of thinning the heard. Who knows. I'm tired and going to bed. Goodnight all.
