I guess not as was reported in the following: Huffington Post reports the following: "Republican presidential candidate John McCain said President Bush should veto a measure that would bar the CIA from using waterboarding and other harsh interrogation methods on terror suspects. McCain voted against the bill, which would restrict the CIA to using only the 19 interrogation techniques listed in the Army field manual. His vote was controversial because the manual prohibits waterboarding _ a simulated drowning technique that McCain also opposes _ yet McCain doesn't want the CIA bound by the manual and its prohibitions." This is the Senator who says he is a Maverick? Give me a break! This is the Senator who is against torture? Give me a bigger break. If this is how Senator McCain is going to play the game, he won't win no matter who the Dem nominee is. Imagine electing someone who is going to fill the Supreme Court with more federalists and neo-cons who will condone torture and other untolerable violations of civil rights.

Pollchecker, I heard this
Submitted by Sandra Price on February 21, 2008 - 10:49am.Pollchecker, I heard this and thought I had misunderstood. I wasn't going to vote for him any but he is just another politician behind Bush.
Actually he and the Bushies
Submitted by pollchecker on February 21, 2008 - 11:05am.Actually he and the Bushies don't like each other. But they currently need each other.
Which is why I could not vote for McCain. He is clearly selling his soul to court the conservative GOP voters. He can't be a maverick and still cowtow to the powers behind the GOP party. At least you can't if you want to get elected.
I am waiting to see if the words flip flopper come up. Because this clearly is a contradiction of what he represents.
Maybe he thinks the American people aren't paying attention. Maybe he thinks he is the decider now. Maybe he thinks he can get away with the same stuff GW got away with.

Submitted by KayInMaine on February 21, 2008 - 7:07pm.Oh yes, torture is all the rage now, didn't you know? Even those who were prisoners of war for six years think today that torture is good as long at the CIA is doing it. See?

McCain should know that
Submitted by dbbeebs on February 22, 2008 - 2:26pm.McCain should know that every technique used by the CIA will legitimately be used by enemy powers on American POWs.

Submitted by pollchecker on February 22, 2008 - 2:29pm.Isn't that exactly what he has said about torture in the past? I don't understand his flip flop on the issue of terror then.
