I want to laugh ,I want to cry.I want to remember, we're only human.Given the political atmosphere and the wealth of options that fuel our angst,let us reach back in time for words of humorous and sage advice. From our lists of unforgettable characters that helped shape the conduct of our lives and of our attitudes ,lets try to apply the lessons they imparted to what you would say if advising our next President.I remember a man with piercing dark eyes,a square set jaw,fiery red hair,and an aura of invincibility.That is,until I saw him run.He had the gait of an Orangutan and appeared to be barely in control of his balance.Never the less, to my amazement, he marked every cadence count we made,mile after mile.On our last day in his care he brought us aside and point blank told us he had been shot in the crotch while walking point in the RSVN.He admitted it was carelessness on his part that got him wounded and only providence saved him from having to squat to piss the rest of his life.His words of advice though serious as can be, never fail to make me smile.They saved my life more than once.Mr. President,take heed of these words from an old War Horse,DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY,AND THEN GET CARRIED AWAY.
