February 5, 2008 - 8:41am.

As sad as it may seem, rather than an abject failure, I'm now beginning to believe that Bush and his cabal's plans in the Middle East have actually been a resounding success from their point of view.

For their apparent collective "stupidity" has resulted in continued turmoil in the Middle East, which, in turn, allows the Government of Israel to continue its decades of racism, apartheid and hegemony in the region. What's more, Mr. Bush's, continued failure to "win the peace" in Iraq and Afghanistan has virtually guaranteed that our troops will now be there for decades.

All of which is EXACTLY what the Government of Israel wants.

For decades, the Government of Israel has had both our Presidents AND our members of the US Congress by the short hairs. Organizations like AIPAC (backed up by the ruthless scare tactics of the Israeli Mossad operating within our borders) have made absolutely sure of that.

This, in turn, means that NONE of what the US is now fighting for in Iraq or Afghanistan has anything to do with finding weapons of mass destruction, bringing "democracy" to nations whose people haven't a clue as to what that word means, protecting our own "national security", or even lowering the price of oil (or controlling its flow).

Rather, I firmly believe our continued presence in Iraq and Afghanistan has everything to do with keeping the developing Moslem world in the Middle East a constant state of turmoil so as to underwrite and enable the Government of Israel's obsessive need to expand both its borders and its influence in the region. The Government of Israel's shameful performance in southern Lebanon in 2006 and it's ongoing blockade of the Gaza strip…all the while dropping cluster bombs and anti-personnel munitions on civilian targets…should leave absolutely NO doubt in anyone's mind as to exactly what the Israeli Government's real intentions are.

In that sense, this is a regional holy war with governments comprised of Christians and Jews (along with their willing allies) seeking nothing short of a complete "ethnic cleansing" of the developing Moslem world around Israel. And, as Mr. Bush is, himself, a fundamentalist Christian, this turns his illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan into endless "holy crusades".

This, my friends, is the REAL reason why our troops are now fighting (and dying) in places like Iraq and Afghanistan and why they will continue to do so for many, many decades to come.

What's more, these ongoing "holy wars" also guarantee that billions and billions of your and my tax dollars will continue flowing into the coffers of the hopelessly corrupt US defense contractors along with their various lobbyists and "think tanks" (not to mention keeping all those campaign contributions flowing into Presidential and Congressional campaign coffers from the now-fully-employed defense constituencies "back home"!).

It's a win-win for everyone.

That is, of course, except for the beleaguered US taxpayer and our brave (mostly young) soldiers who are giving their very lives to underwrite such blatant apartheid, shameful collusion and systemic government corruption.

Regardless of who actually caused it, Mr. Bush and the neocons nonetheless used 9/11 as a pretense to invade Afghanistan and then Iraq. And mark my words, sometime before the next Presidential election; another manufactured "retaliation" by the Government of Israel against Hezbollah (or some other manufactured terrorist "attack" somewhere else in the world) will be used as Mr. Bush's pretense to then invade the next country on the neocon "hit list"…Iran.

Clearly, the turmoil we've caused in Iraq and Afghanistan is actually working out far better than even the neocons had hoped. It's providing even more cannon fodder than they'd ever dreamed they'd have to justify their chicanery to a largely ignorant (and therefore easily panicked) American public. This, in turn, insures the President and his willing stooges in the US Congress will continue underwriting their overall master plan for the USA to eventually rule both the Christian AND the Moslem worlds as the 21st Century's global, imperial super-power.

Sadly, the era of true peace on Earth will not come as long as a tremendous percentage of your and my taxes continually go to educate men and women in the trades of slaughter to further so-called "holy wars" of religion-based "ethnic cleansing".

Since Bush invaded Iraq to elimiate Saddam I would say yes to that statement.

And since he's gotten all the money he needs to stay in Iraq and pay off his buddies at Halliburton, Blackwater and the military industrial complex, I would say Yes as well.

And since he's lied over and over again and basically has not held accountable for any of his actions including sanctioning nefarious actions against anyone that got in his way (like say Valerie Plame), then I would say yes as well.

Yeah Keith,
Why don't the damn Jews just lie down and let the arabs finish what Hitler started? Then we could watch the land return to desert, the cities crumble, and Judenrein will reign supreme again in the Middle East. Then the arabs could go about killing themselves and cut down their population and America can step in, have another dumb war, and really bury our country.
It's people like you, who blame the Jews for everything, that give credence to bigotry and anti-semitism. Next you will be blaming ME for crucifying Rabbi Jesu.
Get a life...

I think the petroleum and

I think the petroleum and military industries have a lot to do with it too.

People who call this administration a failure don't understand the goals of this administration. It's been remarkably successful -- it just hasn't served the interests of the American people.

If anyone failed here, it's us, the American people. We allowed ourselves to get whipped up in false choices and divisive ideologies.

And from the looks of many of the comments I'm seeing in MSM and on sites such as this one during these primaries, we haven't learned a damned thing.

We'll continue getting the government we deserve. If we want a better government, then we're going to have to start deserving it.

"If we allowed it, then we

"If we allowed it, then we deserve it."

I didn't allow it but I was in the minority. So it is what I got.

And I don't deserve it. I didn't do anything to even warrant getting any part of this.

Not everyone in this country are sheep.

Really? And what did you do

Really? And what did you do to try to prevent it?

Because looking back, I'm afraid I think maybe I didn't do enough.

Oh sure, I sat around and commiserated with some like-minded types -- I think they call it "preaching to the converted." And I even exchanged a few volleys with some that disagreed.

But... I think I was too busy that day to show up at the protest. Maybe it was raining and cold, or too hot. And I never did like how bumper stickers looked on my car. And my blog? Well, let's just say that I'm in business for myself -- although I probably did more ranting than is appropriate for someone who has to sell her services to people who may not agree, I never really stuck my horns out there properly. Geez, when you look at what the poor Dixie Chicks had to go through for one little slip of the lip, and they're so young and beautiful ... well, a fat old broad like me just couldn't chance pissing too many people off.

I didn't run for office.

I still haven't sent off letters to various government officials for fear I'll get stuck on some damned no-fly list, maybe be shipped off to Syria.

I never grabbed a soapbox and went looking for places to put it up.

Nope, I was always too busy or too careful. Thinking back now, with that whole Clinton impeachment thing, I knew there were some serious problems, but at the root of it all was a man I'd felt had made some very stupid choices, and so I failed to take a stronger stand. Since then, I've always been too busy or had too many conflicting interests or whatever.

Maybe you feel you did nothing to deserve this -- but the way I look at it, I did nothing not to. If the original founding fathers had been as passive as me, the United States might never have come to be. And the world would be a very different place today. I'm ashamed in their shadow because I can't honestly say that I've lived up to the legacy and responsibility that they handed down to me.

I am sorry that you do not

I am sorry that you do not feel you did enough. Apparently there are a lot of people who feel that way.

I sure do wish more people felt that way 8 years ago when many of us warned vehemently about the consequences of electing GW in the first place.

But I think we digress off the subject which was Iraq, I believe....which many of us also warned about in summer of 2002.

It was never a matter of if we were going to invade Iraq, it was only a matter of when we were going to invade Iraq.

I wish I could feel that

I wish I could feel that "warning people" was good enough. I just don't think it is though. I think if we want real change, at this point, we might have to be prepared to go to some extremes. At the very least, get out there in the streets and let them hear from us en masse.

But how many people do you think would bother? Would you?

And so we do the next best thing: we gripe.

What good does it do, though? What are we changing?

If we're happy with the answer "nothing," then we definitely deserve this.

Some years back, some people in France were pretty fed up with a haves-and-have-nots system. They stormed some government buildings, tossed some nobles in rat-infested prisons, and shortened a few of them on the guillotine.

Wasn't much before that, some people in the American colonies were fed up, and they had themselves a little tea party, formed a militia and took on the army and the best mercenaries the king could afford. And before they were done, they booted that king right back across the ocean.

And just a few decades back, some people had their noses out of joint about seating arrangements on the bus. They walked and encouraged their friends to walk with them. They were smart enough to realize that even though they were just poor people, the revenues from their bus fares kept the buses running -- and they figured it was only right that they were treated decently when they rode those buses.

So you like to complain, and so do I -- but the question we need to ask ourselves is, are we as dissatisfied as these people? And if so, what are we going to do about it?

How much could a person do?

How much could a person do? Did you ever write to your Senators or Congressmen? I have. Do you know what their reply was? A form letter that they send to everyone. I have written my legislators on several occasions concerning several issues, and I got back the same form letter every time. Even though my emails were concerning different issues, I still got back the same standard email response.

Even in 2004 when we had the chance to vote Bush out, there wasn't enough of us to do so. I did vote against Bush. I did vote against my standing senator as well. My vote was enough to replace my senator, but not the president.

I think that no matter what we would have done, there was no stopping this administration. No matter if there would have been 5 million people protesting at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, it still would not have stopped the insane actions of this administration.

Look at how they have torn down our Constitution. Who is there to stop them? Not even our legislators that took the oath to defend our constitution can stop them, how are we "the people" supposed to do so?

Yep, know about the form

Yep, know about the form letter. I even participated up here in Canada as a stakeholder in a regulatory consultation, and looking back, if I'd have known it was going to go down the way it did, I would have used more KY jelly. But you know what? We really only had ourselves to blame because we failed to be better organized.

As Keith points out, when AIPAC wants something, Congress jumps and fetches. Why? Because so many congresspersons are pro-Israel? Or because AIPAC is organized, well funded, patient and persistent, professional?

And another thing too: don't you think that there are people involved in AIPAC who maybe don't see eye-to-eye? And yet, when they approach the government, they present a united front. That's essential. As a guy I worked with back in my CARAC days said, "we all have to be in the same tent, peeing out." (It's a guy thing, I'm sure! ;-) Unfortunately for us, we weren't -- and we paid the price for it too.

As I see it, we have two choices for taking back our government now:

1) Bloody, violent revolution -- but it will be a civil war because once there's a power vacuum, there will be a great contest to fill it. (Don't believe me? See Iraq.)

2) We might have to agree on a few basic premises -- like for example that we want a return to pre-911 rights and freedoms, including access to due process for all -- and then we'll have to form an organized action committee to focus on chipping away at just that. It won't be easy or cheap, but that's the only way we'll get any change.

One problem I have is that, as much as I don't like what the government is doing these days, I look at some people posting on sites like this one and I ask myself if I'd like to live in the world that they'd make if they had their way. Frankly, the government still seems like the lesser evil in many cases!!

Sadly it is obvious Why we

Sadly it is obvious

Why we are in Iraq. And sadder still is no one is making Bush pay for it!

When Bush is able to get away with invading a country based on intel from 1998 (if not older!) its sad!

If it were not for oil (and rich Saudi oil pals), the Bush family would be dead broke!

Maybe Bush is not making any money now off the Iraqi oil, and maybe Cheney is not either. But how hard will it be for Cheney to get a board appointment to Haliburton after he steps down in 2009? I am sure Bush has a seat at the baord waiting for him too!

1. Nations other than Israel that benefit from our stupidity are Russia and -- until we start to nuke them -- Iran.

Wrong Keith. The "REAL"

Wrong Keith. The "REAL" reason why the United States is in Iraq is to take and plunder from Iraq's national companies, then turn them over to American Corporations for profit.

Iraq is all about Milton Friedman's Chicago School of Economics, theory.

Read Naomi Klein's, Shock Doctrine where Milton Friedman's economic model is connected to Iraq.
