It is time for the military to can the ridiculous rule that says gay men and women in service have to avoid admitting their sexual orientation. That's the opinion of 28 retired generals and admirals who are urging Congress to repeal the "Don't ask, don't tell" law that says gays can stay in uniform as long as they don't talk about it. Time to put this piece of discrimination out to pasture. A New Push to Roll Back ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ - Twenty eight retired generals and admirals plan to release a letter on Friday urging Congress to repeal a law that allows gay men and lesbians to serve in the military but only if they keep their orientation secret. Submitted by Sandra Price on November 30, 2007 - 12:06pm.This will happen but the question is when? Is America prepared for equality yet? Not according to many Conservative internet sites. I know that many here in my senior development are just now admitting they have gay children and grandchildren. Many feel it is time to release these Americans out of the closet and bring them back into the families all over America. It is also time the churches begin to grow up and stop judging everyone by their sexual actions.
We live in a world obsessed by sexual images and we raise our kids to admire extreme male and female attributes. My emails and television commercials are worried about my erectile disfunction and my breasts. I have none of the first and no problem with the second.
It is time we grew up!

Retired General Colin Powell
Submitted by keith on December 1, 2007 - 8:25am.Retired General Colin Powell weighed in on this issue a while back as well, noting that, he, too, believed that allowing gays to serve openly in the military would (and should) happen "someday" but not in the immediate future.
I, too, agree that it's time "we all grew up". Unfortunately, however, there are still FAR too many bigots in Congress (and in all ranks of our military) who are unable (or unwilling) to accept social progress and change.
These include the likes of such "clean Marines" as retired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Peter Pace who continually try to hide their own personal bigotry towards gays behind old, worn out "good order and discipline" mantras.
Such blatant hypocrisy still abounds in our Military Services. Street drugs remain illegal, but yet booze remains readily available at military-run Class Six stores and in on-base military clubs. Adultery remains a Court Marital offense under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (the UCMJ), but senior officers routinely look the other way when it happens in the ranks because they, too, are often perpetrators of that particular "crime" under the UCMJ themselves.
Most other military services throughout the world (including ALL of those in Europe, along with other such "western" countries as Australia, Israel and Canada) have openly integrated homosexuals into their Military Services. And their "sky" has yet to fall.
What's more, an estimated 65,000 gay members of our own Armed Forces (and over one million retirees) are still serving or have served our country honorably. So, the sorry excuse that having gays serve in the military causes a breakdown of "good order and discipline" simply doesn't wash.
Such dogma is simply another name for "institutionalized bigotry". We don’t legally tolerate such systemic discrimination in ANY other part of our society. So why do we continue to tolerate it in our Military Services?
Well said Keith. But you
Submitted by Sandra Price on December 1, 2007 - 10:55am.Well said Keith. But you must remember that gays are an abomination to Christians. Gays in the military and gay marriages will destroy American culture.
This discrimination is only second to having Atheists come out of the closet.
