I cry for my country.

We have fallen to lows no one could have expected or predicted ten years ago. We now have the international press describing the detainment facility at Guantanamo Bay as a stain on the military. They are not correct. The facility and the people who ordained its existence and who set forth Draconian rules of procedure and law are stains not only on our military but upon all of us:

I thought you were impuning the logic of people who would unleash wire-biting suicide/homicide bombers on the US and world population. Guantanimo detainees already released have re-joined the Muslim radicals as heros who can recruit even more Muslim radicals into the jihad they have had going for 1000 years.

It is sheer lunacy to turn these prisoners out now.

We held German prisoners (who incidentally wore uniforms and not civilian garb like spies) until the war ended. We did not release them to re-join the Nazi regime and slaughter Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, and anyone else held undesirable by the Third Reich.
Hitler is back but he is wearing a headscarf and getting away with wearing civilian clothes while fighting a war on the cheap.

oh my, whatever you got your PhD in, it certainly was not rationality. You certainly do abound in naivete if you think Muslim radicals pose any significant danger to the US/world. Who are those rejoiners you're talking about? About 99% of the detainees at the Stain on America are innocent people. You seriously lack any semblance of logical argumentation if you think Nazism bears any resemblance to Islamic Fundamentalism (of which there are countless strands). I say you either talk your PhD, or get a specific one in world politico-economic history to have the authority to talk. For now, it's just shallow semantics.

Perhaps he was referring to those enisled in the Mediterranean, often referred to as the detainees of Crete.

Apologies to those of you who don't get the pun. It's one I've been waiting a LONG time to be able to stretch a post to cover it:

Oh, my. Wherever did you get the idea that I wanted to turn them loose? I was commenting on the notoriety of the internment center at Guantanamo Bay. Hell, no. Treating them exactly as we did POWs during WW II is fine.

Remind me again how many of those were tortured, deprived of sleep, kept blindfolded and subject to extreme noise for weeks on end, waterboarded, etc. I'll tell you how many. NONE! We treated them as we expected opponents to treat our troops captured during wartime.

IIRC we executed a few German military who infiltrated our country in disguise bent on sabotage or espionage. But the military detainees got better rations than many of their comrades who weren't captured. Better living conditions, better medical care. A whole damn bunch of them decided not to accept repatriation at the end of the war too.
