Clearly, a black man running for the presidency of the United States is NOT without a huge risk of assassination. The motives may be racial and/or political. Few people know that on August 24, 2008 three men were arrested, initially, for planning an assassination attempt on Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. While authorities captured 3 men who conspired to kill Obama, their activities were pronounced a low-level threat and the men were dismissed as merely drug addicts without any chance of succeeding in their effort. - According to Wikipedia, the online free encyclopedia: "The 2008 Barack Obama assassination scare refers to news reports of an alleged plot by Shawn Robert Adolf, Tharin Robert Gartrell and Nathan Dwaine Johnson to assassinate Senator Barack Obama, the 2008 Democratic Party presidential nominee, at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. The trio were tied together by officials who alleged they planned to shoot Obama with a high-powered rifle based on their reported white supremacist belief that an African American should not be elected President of the United States. Gartrell was arrested August 24 and found to be in possession of rifles and other weaponry; Adolf and Johnson were arrested shortly thereafter. In a televised interview prior to his arrest, Johnson identified Adolf as the man who allegedly hatched the plot and planned to be the shooter. Although suspected white supremacist associations led federal authorities to investigate possible ties to a larger group, federal authorities downplayed the three would-be shooters as drug addicts who had little chance of actually carrying out the plot. The three men have been charged with drug and weapons charges, but not for threatening a presidential candidate." - Such actions already are leading some to consider various "conspiracy theories" and that the life of Senator Barack Obama will be under constant threat of assassination, during his campaign and afterwards should he become the next President of the U.S. The fact that the authorities' dismissal of the initial high-level assassination threat on Obama's life, should be a concern to the candidate's future longevity. - "FBI Special Agent Robert Sawyer first believed there was probable cause to believe the trio were conspiring to kill Obama, based on searches of their hotel rooms and cars.[12] However, United States Attorney Troy Eid said the racist statements the suspects made following their arrests had not risen to the legal standard that would have allowed the filing of federal charges for threatening a presidential candidate[6][7] " - Our government along with local authorities must do everything possible to protect the life of Barack Obama. Conspiracy theorists are prophecizing future assassination attempts will reoccur until they are successful in ending Obama's life. Americans do not need another catastrophic incident that will undermine and hinder our nation's evolutionary path as did the recent assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King. In addition, there are many who believe that the "accidental" airplane death of John F. Kennedy Jr. was actually a conspired political assassination by perpetrators within our government. In any case, there is no doubt that Senator Barack Obama is in constant danger for his life. ---

Pstern. You open many doors
Submitted by Malibu on October 11, 2008 - 9:54am.Pstern. You open many doors that lead to the danger in America. It is not just the voters who are terrified of an African American in the White House, but much of our federal government. Few of us even know the powers of the CIA around the globe. Many have their own prisons where torture is the general attitude for information. Life in our government is cheap and dispensable.
Electing Religious Leaders is not the answer as they can sin and break all the commandments and ask for forgiveness. No! We need leaders who know right from wrong and will lead us all into the same culture. No forgiveness for killing innocent people or torturing to death those they doubt.
This is America where the world looks to us for individual freedoms. We'll have to fight to keep them. We may have to march on the Capital one of these days to get their attention. I have many friends who will not vote in November as it only encourages the government to become more powerful over the will of the people.
I mailed in my ballot on Friday just so I wouldn't be talked out of voting for the Presidential election. I had my own concerns with the Propositions and Sheriff choices.
Good commentary!

If you review the majority of assassinations [presidential and otherwise] you will find that the murders were most against the Democratic Party side of the scale:
John F. Kennedy
Robert Kennedy
Martin Luther King
Abraham Lincoln
William McKinley
John F. Kennedy Jr.

Of the four (4) sitting
Submitted by Flapsaddle on October 13, 2008 - 11:36am.Of the four (4) sitting presidents assassinated (Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Kennedy), only one was a Democrat. Of the six (6) sitting presidents or VPs who survived assassination attempts (Jackson, Theodore Roosevelt, FDR, Truman, Ford, Reagan), there were three of each. Of two major (2) contenders (RFK, George Wallace), there was one of each.
That's 7:5 in favor of Republican or right-leaners being the target(s).
I do not count MLK as an electoral contender.
Most sincerely,

If the elite are
Submitted by CheckerboardStr... on October 12, 2008 - 1:40am.If the elite are dissatisfied with the tenor of the new President, no amount of Secret Service will keep them safe because the assassinations noted in our past were not actually assassinations but a coup d'etat.
Now add to that the distorted reasoning of bigotry coupled with slack-jawed religious fanaticism and you have the perfect storm.
There are hordes of people in this country who believe that Obama is the living embodiment of the antichrist and a signal that they are to spring into action to save the world in a blaze of White Christian purity and goodness. I know, because I live in a city where it is not surprising to see posts in local blogs celebrating the coming race war.
It is my sincere hope that Barack Obama is able to serve out his terms with healthful vigor and return to public life safe and sound and in one piece with a happy healthy family in tow.
But given the size of the odds against him, I hope that he has a plenty-big and far reaching personal mafia in addition to the state appointed watchdogs.
Lyndon Johnson had a
Submitted by RichardKanePA on October 13, 2008 - 11:43am.Lyndon Johnson had a reputation as being very conservative until JFK was killed. At which point Johnson cloned himself a being a continuation of Kennedy.
However, Kennedy's new policy toward Vietnam was only a few weeks old and not know by the America public. Had it been know the US never would have fought the Vietnam War.
Today right-wing Jews think Obama's foreign policy will be similar to Eisenhower's, slanted toward the Third World. Most think Obama's policy in the Middle East will be similar to Carter's, constantly trying to be even-handed only openly criticizing Israel after he left office or even slightly slanted toward Israel.
The best way to keep Obama alive is for Biden to announce that in areas where he may differ with Obama, he plans to implement Obama's policy if he becomes President because of an assassinate or an extreme injury to Obama. And if an assassin might think Obama will increase affirmative action, or try to equate Muslim ideals with Christian, then as President I will assume it is part of my responsibility to initiate a Presidential policy not in the assassin’s liking.
