Republican White House hopeful John McCain has picked his running mate to stand with him against the Democrats in the November election, his campaign said Thursday.

Asked to confirm reports that McCain had made his choice, spokesman Brian Rogers replied "Yep" by email.

Reports said the McCain campaign intended to leak out the news in the coming hours ahead of an official announcement, in a bid to divert attention away from Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Obama was due to give an acceptance speech later Thursday before 75,000 people packed into a Denver football stadium in a spectacular climax to the Democrats' four-day convention.

Just read where he picked

Just read where he picked Alaska governor Sarah Palin. She is 44 years old and certainly not well known at all. She and her husband have 5 children ranging in age from 4 months to 18 years old.

I'm sure this is a move to attract displeased Hillary followers. Maybe some will be, but is she really ready to become president in case McCain should not live out his first term? Big question mark!

The McCain campaign thinks Obama doesn't have enough experience, this is not a very good call for them for the very same reason. Quite a huge step from a small town in Alaska to the white house! With children that young, I have to say it -- that seems an enormous leap for a young mother with a new baby.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out!

small town Alaska? Unlike

small town Alaska? Unlike Obama, she has more executive experience than Obama.
She couldn't help but pay tribute to the 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling.
I hope you aren't suggesting that since she has young children she should stay in the kitchen

Yes, small town Alaska -

Yes, small town Alaska - 5,000+. She's a Karl Rove pick which just proves McCain IS taking advise from that despicable man.

Is her executive experience of any more value than Obama's legislative experience? Don't think so. I'd say his experience outweighs her small town politics. Gov. of Alaska for 2 years hasn't put her in contact with world leaders and doesn't compare with national experience. We'll see if the republicans still harp on Obama's so called "lack of experience".

It was no surprise to learn her husband works for BP oil company. These republicans really do seem to all be tied up in the oil business, somehow, one way or another!
