McCain will speak at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, a gathering of 400,000 or more motorcycle riders, hangers on and party girls. McCain's speech is sandwiched in between the "Ringing Wet & Wild" women's mud wrestling event and the Miss Buffalo Chip contest. Bikers, many of them vets, might seem like a natural audience for former Vietnam Prisoner of War McCain but a candidate who also tries to cater to the self-righteous right-wing of the Republican Party may be courting disaster by mixing politics with naked women, drunken brawls and public debauchery. It's that kind of political year. Writes Sam Stein in The Huffington Post:

Scheduled somewhere between
Submitted by Cosmic Surfer on August 4, 2008 - 9:26am.Scheduled somewhere between the Wet & Wild Female Mud Wrestling and Miss Buffalo Chip (how appropriate - he can warm them up with his sh** spewing), McCain will try to court bikers at Sturgis. The annual event does draw a large group of veterans but one can only hope that he gets what he truly deserves. Chip toss anyone?
I wonder if Governor
Submitted by keith on August 4, 2008 - 10:28am.I wonder if Governor Huckabee has also been invited to deliver the invocation?
Sure looks like there's a new appraoch to the Republican's idea of "family values" now brewing.
Can you even begin to
Submitted by colocritic on August 4, 2008 - 11:02am.Can you even begin to imagine the response the media would be covering, if this were Obama going to this "event?" This human has lost all respect I ever had for him. I can't imagine why he would want to be seen with the crowd that gathers there! The religious right must be steaming and I hope they blast him with all he deserves for doing this! How low will he stoop for a vote?
His ridiculous ads on Obama really do irritate me (McCain thinks they are funny??.) I hope Obama finally gets fired up to throw this all back in his face. Or maybe it will backfire on McCain, I hope so! He needs a v.p. out there doing the appropriate responses for him, if he doesn't want to do it himself. He can't keep playing Mr. Nice Guy and let this kind of garbage continue to be thrown at him or he will never get ahead. The repubs will just keep on dishing out the trash and he must know that. Come on Obama, we want you to fight back now!! At least Paris's mother is fighting back, good for her!

If Big O wants to counter he
Submitted by bryan mcclellan on August 4, 2008 - 12:59pm.If Big O wants to counter he needs to speak at the Crazy Horse memorial, a most fitting place to bury the crusading white supremest tyrant.
He could speak of the demise of the once proud owners of north America and what governments do to indigenous populations in their quest to rule and steal by force, that which they cannot obtain honorably.
If he truly is the agent of change what better source to take from than that of this governments track record of broken treaties and outright genocidal tactics against starved and disease weakened peoples?
He should recite the history up to this very day of the machinations of the sleaze that permeates the White house and the tactics of his opponent that mirror it's current occupant.
While his opponent participates in the debauchery and defiling of the pristine Black Hills big O could be sending a clear message that the party is over for this style of government and that he intends to return this nation to it's people, the rightful owners.
And as a side note he might also mention that wet T-Shirt contests and mud wrestling while titillating also provide a window into the depths of where we've been and where we may end up. Anyone remember, party like it's 1999?
How about an ad that
Submitted by ekaton on August 4, 2008 - 1:20pm.How about an ad that conflates the female mud wrestling, the wet t-shirt contests and McCain's speech in Sturgis in the same fashion as the McCain/Spears/Hilton ad? If the democrats expect to win they are going to have to get as mean as the republicans; they are going to have to get down there in the mud and wrestle with McCain.
Voice over: "Are these John McCain's family values?"

Agreed Kent, staying above
Submitted by bryan mcclellan on August 4, 2008 - 1:54pm.Agreed Kent, staying above the fray while retaining dignity will be hard but looking at all the material big O has from which to choose, reasoned response is mandatory or he will get buried alongside Gore, and Kerry. He certainly can't count on MSM to do it for him.

I've been to Sturgis once
Submitted by CheckerboardStr... on August 4, 2008 - 3:26pm.I've been to Sturgis once before but I'd give anything to be there with McCain because I guarantee you I'd have five
batteries in rotation on my high definition television camera and I'd be bringing back the video Johnny boy hopes the rest of the country never sees.
If someone doesn't deliver a YouTube moment out of this trip then America really IS asleep at the wheel.
