Is anybody here actually surprised that the senate reauthorized this. Hell, I'm surprised there were even 10 votes against. Even so, just window dressing. A token show of the 'old' patriotism to give the false hope of some kind of reform from within the system. To keep as many people as possible from waking up to the fact that it's the system itself that's the problem.

Yeah, they blinked. When King George announced his invasion of Iraq, I ranted to anyone who would listen...this was a very bad idea..worse than Vietnam. I ranted for weeks and then these Democratic Congress cowards rolled over like two bit whores in a third world country. I am ashamed of my fellow country men and how little courage they show under fire. I still think most of the Democrates would show a good heart if not being hammered incessantly by a macho cowboy.
But it is hard to keep you head when violence is going on around you. Having spent 20 years in the military, one of the more interesting things I learned was that all of the peace time brass had to be removed and replaced when the shooting started in WWII. Read recently an old book on the Brave New World Order...the issue with this President is giving him continually more powers. Reagan tried it with his National Security Secret Directives. The one that was leaked to the Cristic Institute spoke of setting up 10 detention camps in the US for housing up to 400,000 political prisoners in the event of the need to suspend the constitution in a time of war. We now have list of 380,000 according to the White HOuse and now approval for KBR to build "immigration" detention centers and for "other Projects" Please will someone call for pulling the war powers from this dangerous man right now before it really gets out of control.

The reason nobody is standing up and doing anything is that we're all terrified, and not by the 'terrorists'. Recent history has made it abundantly clear that any popular leader, with the potential to start making a real difference, isn't gonna be long for this world. For the folks who write about wanting a third party effort, I have one comment: That is not going to happen so long as those of us wanting to change the politics of our government sit and write eloquently on our key boards, write letters to editors from our computers, and instant message and blog. It can only happen when people join with other people and get off our butts and onto our feet and begin pushing socially and politically for change ... and that means serious planning, organizing and implementing.

The first thing I recall learning about social change is that it takes people together describing and understanding the problems they have in common and deciding as a group to do something concerted about those problems. Institutional change cannot happen without a social problem being identified, synthesized to a common enough understanding and movement by the growing group demanding institutional change. Sitting here at my computer is only a small, first step in this process.

How many reading this have spoken to your respective state legislators and asked why she or he is not willing to call for the impeachment of the President. That call can come from a state's legislature and, if sent on, must by law be dealt with by the U.S. House and Senate.

Us progressives here in Richmond VA largely agree with Doug. The Dems are craven cowards.

That's not to say that the Dems in power wouldn't do better than the Republicans in power. It's to say that Dems ARE cowards.

However, better that they be cowards than that they be active dicatators. Not MUCH better of course. Not good enough. But not as bad as the GOP.

Move-on has started raising money to fund true progressives running in primaries against Republican-lite Democrats. I'm supporting them. It's the only strategy that I think can work.

The public will probably never come to recognize that the hegemonic party will keep the minority party around for window dressing, and the minority party will pretend to opposition in order to keep their perks and uphold their self-delusion of influence. We have to defeat these guys one at a time, from within, and keep speaking truth to power, without any way to access the TV and print media....primary contests are one way to get media access for our ideas and values. It's the only thing I can see that we have left to do.

I don't think any third party started from outside the two major parties can make it. (Though one started INSIDE, which later breaks off, has a better chance.)

I agree that the Dem leadership is reprehensible....but there's no way that they are as bad as the GOP when it comes to defying the will of the people and working against their interests, whether economic or civil rights.

I live in Maine where Susan Collins is selling herself as a true moderate concerned about ethics and port security, when, in fact, she voted lock-stock-and-barrel with George Bush. She even insisted that FEMA be under Homeland Security, and, according to "Brownie", that's why FEMA is an utter disgrace! I even have a photo of her giving Bush an adoring glance after a particular corporate-welfare vote. Hey, if we really want to make a difference, we should all write about this woman's voting record and send it to the Portland Press Herald. I've had numerous letters to editor published in the paper, but they will NOT publish anything negative about this woman. This is the paper that found three DUIs on Bush days before his first election. They decided not to print anything about them because it would have looked "too political."

My 14 yr old son rolls his eyes when I go on a rant - he just does not comprehend the importance of the political events taking place today that will affect and change his entire life in so many ways. I'm glad I can't work anywhere, and even if I could I refuse. I won't pay taxes of any kind into this miserable mess or support those greedy, pocket lining thugs in the House, the Senate, or the Whore House. I refuse to take those illegal piss tests, submit to fingerprint checks, or any of the other illegal crap required now in order yo even GET a job, let alone keep it, since there is no "job security" anyway, and why on earth would I want to work for below minimum wage anyway? My kids draw SS benefits off their dad's Disability check, and I manage those.
This government cut me off Medicaid benefits just when I was getting the diagnosis for my health problems that would have either helped me get the correct treatments to improve my health so I could have returned to work if I had wanted to, or qualified me for Social Security benefits. Damn the rotten lot of them!!!

Time to leave both these parties in the dust. If we all switch our voter registration to ANY party but Republican or Democrat, and put our money into candidates who aren't corporate shills, they might feel like listening to us.
The other thing we have to demand is a return to 100% paper ballots, bi-partisan vote counting with no special privilages for the majority party.
Until they can't steal/buy our elections, we have to fight them on grounds they'll understand.

I think it's pretty obvious that the Repuiblican and Democratic parties are colluding and therefore consitute an illegal monopoly on political power in the US. We need to prosecute the two parties under the Racketeering, Influence and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and declare them to be criminal organizations. We can then confiscate all property of anyone who profitted from either or both parties and use the money to pay off the debt that they incurred on this nation through their corruption and influence peddling.

Imagine a country where everyone who considered themselves a Republican or Democrat was in chains working to clean up the mess they created. Loved your Rant this morning, especially your comments on Hillary, whom the DLC is shoving down our throats even before the midterm elections. Some of my favorite websites have been blindsided in their support of Hillary. I don't think anyone who voted for this war is an acceptable candidate. I'd rather see the Democratic Party die and, I hope, eventually rise in purer form from its own ashes than remain the spineless organization that it now is!

Well Doug. A lot of people agree with you. But if the penalty for treason is execution, how would this be carried out? A bunch of constitutionalist citizens with their hunting rifles and shotguns? Am I hearing chuckles an smirks? Are visions of a thousand Ruby Ridges and Wacos wafting through our minds? At some point won't the military or some contingent thereof have to defect and accomplish this for the people? Who would carry out such an order and who would order it? Recall when a 3rd party was rejected,by the two parties, to speak on the presendential candidates speaches on TV? I'm blaming the two parties but it was the networks decision.
Last week, I got to see the pictures of Home and Burial momument of Randolf Hearst-- Unbeleivable--died like a king---and only by owning a newspaper chain. He got all his money from the government--lying about who started a war. Cuba, and Hawaii bring to mind--massive killings, even the Hawaiian King and queen killings didn't bother whoish Hearst. Seems there is a similiar pattern at play today. Iraq!
So!, our problem in not getting decent politicians---- USA media gets paid to lie to us. I suggest we smash and burn all the presses and down the TV towers--that will work. Then go after the creeps put in power by AIPAC.

it has been established for some time now that we no longer have anyone to vote for who _genuinely_ represents "the people". we all know that these guys are selfserving, corporate whores - so could someone please tell me what the alternative is?

I see many websites, such as this one, prisonplanet.com, etc etc, voicing *MY* opinion. I truly relate to what these sites are saying about our corrupt western governments and the fact that our leaders are spilling blood and selling us all down the river for the sake of their own wealth & power. Yet nowhere on these sites do I see any suggestion of how we can actually CHANGE our situation. We no longer have anyone representing the interests of the average man. Democrat & Republicans are one and the same as far as the most important social issues are concerned.

Surely there are organizations, political parties and other agents of change that could use our frustrations and energy and channel them towards some form of positive and actual CHANGE?? I'd certainly back and support any party with a manifesto based on TRUTH, a rejection of corporate political manipulation and an ideal that they are here to SERVE OUR INTERESTS. But where is that party????? Why are people not organizing to establish such a party and why is no one galvanizing the obvious potential support which they'd have from readers of sites such as CapitolHillBlue, WhatReallyHappened and PrisonPlanet??

What's going on? I'm beginning to feel as though all these “alternative news/info” sites are simply a distraction designed to engage us all in pointless circular rants...nodding our heads and agreeing on how corrupt everything has become…yet never actually doing anything.

Perhaps all these alternative news sites/bloggs are actually orchestrated by the very same entity we're all so disillusioned with. Perhaps they themselves encourage the "truth" to be told, as long as authors NEVER offer the readers any information on real, organized, agents of change.

Phair brings up a good point. Imagine a thousand Ruby Ridges:

Two male adults tied down over 50 federal agents, several helicopters and even shut down a US highway for over a week. At least as many news reporters were also dispatched, costing money and beaming the scenes into every home.

A thousand of those would involve 50,000 federal troops, several thousand helicopters and who knows how much fuel and transportation getting them to the intended location.

A thousand of those would be ten per week for a year.

A thousand Ruby Ridges would be a sure sign of the impending collapse of the US government.

A thousand in a month would be Iraq...

One thing for certain, victory will never be realize through our political system, not now! The system is broken and beyond repair. The two party system has been bought and paid for by corporations. A poor man cannot even muster enough resources to run a campaign, must less get elected. It is only through millions of dollars that a person can win an office and the dollars are controlled by corporations.

The only solution is a brand new system! Gerry Spence calls it a "Pancake Democracy". If you are interested you should read "Give Me Liberty". He even supports "abolishing elections", very interesting reading.

Problem: Our tax dollars keep the bushes in bidness.
Solution: deprive them of these dollars. How? Start a small business - costs about $30 generally, and you have at least 5 years until you "make a profit". Until then, you can take every tax break known to man, and then some, to reduce your income to below your expenses. Legally, of course... :)
The result is that you get back all the tax dollars you paid into the system through your social security and FICA. Zero-tax proponents risk asset seizure and jail-time. but "spending more than you make on your business" is 100% legal. Don't go into debt trying to do this, but "make sure" your expenditures exceed your revenue stream. Think out of the Box on this one. What the IRS looks for is "spikes" in the tax forms - excess income one year, little the next, or, vice versa. This sends up red flags. But a steady increase of "expenditures greater than income" over the next five years is legit. Check out the DOME TAX books for small business - they have a great list of write-offs for small business that you can take advantage of. Become a "consultant" - or start a home industry - making jewelry, quilts, anything that requires you to buy supplies, keep an "inventory" of the materials used to "create" your product. Have to travel to DC to a museum to see some particular example of work similar to yours? That's a write-off. Fight them where it hurts - their pocketbooks.

Problem: Republican operatives control all the states' voting machines and consequently, we have definitely lost the vote in 2006 and probably the near future, no matter how badly the FUBAR is. We can go on and on how Dems will take back the Senate and House, but fugeddabouddit, get over it. They have the machines and we don't.
Solution: A public effort to distribute voting receipts that tally our exit polling results. Have a central collection point to store the voting record sheets. Have a place on the form for name, address, phone, candidate voted for, and place of polling, etc, etc. Since Diebold won't give us a paper trail, we have to make our own. An organization like MoveOn or some such can design, set up PDF files for output and email-distribute them nationally. We, the people, can download the form and take a copy for the record and one for our own backup. A notary can stamp each received form and the collected forms can be given to a team of lawyers set up to immediately contest the voting results. A national campaign of voter awareness would give credibility and legitimacy to this effort. It would perhaps even turn a few cowardly Dems in Senate and House to get press coverage and who knows what else.

Here's my prediction for the very near future.

American's fighting off depression, mass chaos while fighting to survive to have fresh water and food, basic essentials.
Possible China may invade American soil.
Wars and rumors of them, rampant.
Global meltdown as nature causes earthquakes , floods off the chart (HAARP runs at full capacity to try and fry peoples brain cells, Just ask Newt Gingrich what HAARP can do since he wrote in a foreword in a 1982 military manual regarding it's use at just the right waveform to render peoples thought processes blank)

The problem is quite simple.

The American people have for the most part been brainwashed into accepting a faux tug of war between the republicans and the democrats, who have a corner on their money market politics through the abysmal campaigning system in the US. If you don't control the big money, you will never seat either a president or any substantial number of other representatives in any other branch of government. That's just how it is.

Face it. Americans have just let things go that more respectable countries -like the Ukraine- would be up in arms about.

No, you won't elect any third parties or reform your system. It's just not in the American character. You can't ride the coat tails of men and women from 200 years ago, anymore.

Why can't these people see what they are doing to the American fabric? Because of Bush policies, we are hated the world over. We condone torture and rendition. Bush has signed over 500 "signing statements" to tell the people he will do what he wants. No one has the balls to stand up to him. We are truly in a race to the bottom. This morning I sat down and rolled over a link that dragged me to this blog. I was very surprised to find this holy-grail of political standpoints, not to say I didn’t have to cobweb my way through to get to this ridiculously small corner of the net. There’s a lot of anger in Doug Thompson’s “scum-sucking” article, as even the title suggests, and there’s no doubt that there should be. Yes, critical thinking is being oppressed and squatted on by these left and right wing, power-thirsty bulldogs. The power, as we would wish, should rest in the hands of the people, but it seems America has never really grasped this idea to its fullest extent—even in the foundation of this country. After sifting through some replies and comments to this blog, I read some things that were great, and some things that needed a little more guidance. Surely, a heavenly blog must consist of no partisan left and right wing political views, mark twain quotes, and frightening articles about detaining “Fifth Column” movements (and thanks to the Information Clearing House for that great article) In one reply, full of good intention and even quoting Twain, Tim Goodness thanks the few patriots left in the media, like Doug Thompson. The thing is, let’s not call Doug a patriot—we wouldn’t want to ruin his credibility and marksmanship. The word “patriot” derives straight from the shackles of hell, and I’m sick of our government tossing that word around like a hot-potato. Nothing has came from the word itself other than backed-violence and arrogance.
Then I came to another reply and noticed someone saying america is doomed, whether we like it or not. This is a great site from what I’ve seen so far, but there needs to be plenty more optimism. The golden pendulum will eventually sway our way, and when the time comes it’ll be because of sincere optimism. For those that are interested, the Patriot Act is 342 pages in .pdf format. The patriot act is a byzantine, extremely detailed document that basically spells out the total, absolute excision of freedom and liberty from the United States as we know it. The document is a bureaucrat's dream and a freedom loving people's nightmare. I'll provide a link so folks can get their copy of the Patriot Act, but not as amended per the recent vote. I'll provide a link for .pdf downloads of the latest edition of the U.S. Constitution. We must remember that there remains the theoretical balance of powers. So although this act was passed by both houses of our government, rest assured there will be many test cases before the Supreme Court in the ensuing months, and years to come. Of course many people will be possibly damaged gravely, up to an including loss of life, before this monstrosity is cast off by the people. I have to laugh because the fools that passed it, little realize they've just given King George all the rope and power he needs to have them taken out and hanged. All we need is another engineered 911 crisis, martial law declared, the Constitution suspended, and the Patriot Act becoming the order of the day. With Congress suspended, then even they can be rounded up as enemies of the state if they should so much as sqauwk about Bush not playing by the rules. They've sown the wind and shall reap the whirlwind. The reason this has happened is that "We the People" are more enamoured with our privileges and toys, than a love for "FREEDOM". I wrote (snail-mailed), I emailed, I called my reps,and I collared them when they were in town concerning the renewal of this evil anti-Constitutional garbage that isn't worth being being codified into law, but I could sense my concerns were falling on deaf ears. It's like a mexican standoff - no one does anything while Bush fiddles and lets Rome burn. Do they honestly think - dems and repubs - that they will not suffer any consequences of Bush's police state? He'll be like Stalin - even his supporters went to the Gulags. Good post. You hit the nail on the head. As much as I abhor violence, I'm afraid I would be one of the first to rise up. We cannot just "dutifully" be led to the camps. I fought in Vietnam in '68-'69 and the state of American politicws absolutely sucks.

Wow, this blog really does move fast. I was scrolling to see if anyone disagreed with what I said...and I found myself reading for another twenty minutes. My small and rendering blog hasnt taken off yet--due to my lack of computer skills. Here's a letter I received in the mail today.

I have been a loyal Democrat until a few months ago. My highest admiration goes to Russ Feingold and Robert Byrd. Every American ought to carry a copy of the Constitution with them, as he does.

The important thing to remember is that the Preamble to the Constitution is not just a few nice sounding phrases used to introduce it. The Preamble is an essential working part of the Constitution. It is really the "meat snd potatos" - the thing that gives the rest its meaning.

remember "We, the People of the United States......."? It doesn't say "WE, The corporations", or "We, the Executive Department..", or "We, the Pentagon." It establishes the People as the sovereign power in this country. Then it sets out several functions or responsibilities of the Federal Government. The Preamble and the Bill of Rights are the real operating parts of the Constitution. The rest is mechanical detail.

When we all recognize that, and act on it, The USA can be a shining light for the world. Right now, we have Justices of several courts, and government attorneys who are supposedly bright, but know nothing. they play cute with established law, and twist the words and meaning of former Justices such as Robert H. Jackson, one of the great protectors of individual rights. If you want an idea of Jackson's notions of what public policy is all about, read THAT MAN, a bio of FDR, started by Jackson, and finished after his death by Prof. Paul Barrett, his biographer.
Question is, what do we do to change things? A few modest suggestions:
1. No more money to Committees - only to selected indivdual candidates.
2. Write letters to legislators using the same language expressed in this blog - if enough are sent, they'll start to get the picture.
3. support organizations like MoveOn.org and others of that ilk
4. Join/Form state organizations to reform state election laws. Voting machines are only one issue.
Voting machines need to have a verifiable paper trail. The software for any machine has to be owned by the government or an independant non partisan election commission, and not a private corporation.

There is no question that the presidency of GW Bush has been the most disasterous in US history. There is good reason to compare the current situation in the US to the stuation in Germany about 1936-8. If one tried, you could even equate some of the personalities in the two countries.

I'm for a drastic change to progressive government, like all who wrote here. Let's try to find a way to concentrate our firepower. Good Luck.

Okay. Here's the elephant in the room no one's talking about. Just maybe the reason the Democrats gave only a token 10 against the Patriot Act is that they too want their turn at being Dictator of America. It's possible that the economic whirlwind planted by the Bush admin is planned to smack us during a Democrat administration (remember Nixon-->Carter?). That would make any populist programs impossible (oh, what a surprise).

But there is one thing that only the Democrats as Dictator can add to the general fascistic turn of events: gun confiscation.

At first I was angry and sad, but I read through the list of names of the senaters who had the guts to stand up for what is right. My senater Carl Levin is on the list. I took the time to thank him. He stands up for what is right alot. I call his office weekly. I called his answer line to thank him as soon as I read the list of names of our senate heros. I am tired I have been paying close attention to what george w does for 5 long years sense he stole the first election. I plan on calling the brave Senaters who voted for us and thanking them. And I plan on calling my other senator and telling her what a hero Carl Levin is. We need to let them know how we are feeling. MOstly they hear only about what we personally need. I think someone said it right last night people are too busy with their own life. Why isn't the American public listening?

Look, there are dozens of "third parties." I like the Libertarians, myself, but there are the Greens, the Constitution Party, and many more from every part of the political landscape. You mean you couldn't find ONE among all of them that you might mostly agree with?

When you do, just go and vote for their candidates. Vote for ANYBODY except the D's and R's. The only thing preserving the illusion that we CONSENT to this government is the way we slavishly vote for the dominant party candidates.

What do you think would happen if in EVERY place that proper voting machines still exist the "third party" vote doubled, tripled, or quadrupled in each of the next few elections?

I also think some issues like raising the debt
cap need to come to a public vote. I think
Congress has a Big Problem in staying away from
The Big Magic Checkbook, and they need positive reinforcement from the People on how to get rid of this stupid debt, and not just build a new one.
Energy: same issue. People drive cars. They won't stop driving cars. We could still save
20 percent or more of our fuel through a national initiative. Simple problems, simple answers, we're not hearing em from washington...

The People are the source of america's power. They're also the source of america's current problems. Blamw whom you please, but to my mind the Scarlet Letter belongs to those who are plain too whiny and bitchy to submit their opinion during our elections. America was founded on Independence, not cheap prices on venezuela's bananas or whatever.
Nationally, we've gotten lazy. Obesity statistics spell that one out in black and white.

People want a free lunch, they want it all, and they'd like it NOW, please...I say institute 30% across-the-board spending cuts and internal austerity measures for all our official goings-on, cut some of the money out of the whole mess and maybe see some of the larceny go with it. Reforms can work, but they have to be honest, effective, well-thought-out measures to really take it over the top, and that's about where we're at today, people can't see clear to invest enough of their time effort and energy in putting something down on paper that WILL work and taking it forward, to their city council, state representative, anything like that.
Part of that is the amount of attention we pay nationally to civics and government.

We, The People, have some very tough choices to make: Is The Government, as an entity, just to end up as The Ultimate Giver Of The Welfare Check, or was it supposed to be something different before the welfare queens and the big business boys got to it? Lady Liberty's kind of in the process of being raped, AND mugged, at the same time. And then there's those nice muslim people that like us so much. Decisions, decisions...

To fully understand the story I am about to tell, it is important that you understand what Zionism really is. I've read all the comments. People have some good ideas, however, at this point I feel there is only one solution. That solution is the one that some people referred to as the Eliminarian Party.
If each and every one of us went to the polls and voted for anyone, as long as they are not now a member of our government, it would send a super strong message to both leading parties to either listen to the people or kiss your career goodbye.
All present leaders in our government would be eliminated and the newly elected officials would know from day one all about people power. This approach seems to me to be much more viable than bloody confrontations with the military, police, etc. and the resulting turmoil of establishing a new way of governing.
Once these newly elected officials are in office they can, and will, change our government back to the form our fore-fathers had in mind when they wrote the Constitution if these newlies know what's good for them.

There is a way to still vote and make a difference in spite of manipulated tallies. WRITE IN YOUR CANDIDATE! Those votes are tallied seperately. The best way to make a statement of discontent that will be on the record is to write in a candidate.

In my district, there are always more registered voters that did not vote than total voters in elections. Imagine if every one of those discontent non-voters wrote in a candidate, ANY candidate (even their neighbor). It would send a HUGE message, because the total number of write-ins would greatly exceed votes for party candidates.

For our last governor's election, I wrote in an independent candidate. He did not win, and my district had a total of ONE write in. I'm on the map! One * one million = CHANGE.

Would you get the candidate you wrote in? Possibly not, but you would in effect be voting AGAINST the other parties. This is an answer for all the ninnies that say "oh I voted (or won't vote) for the lesser of two evils". SO DON'T!

Urge everyone who gives you lame excuses for not voting to go out and write in who you want. It doesn't matter who! Because not voting is in effect a vote for the winner.

What else can you do? Remember the recall in California. Circle petitions to create referenda and show them you KNOW the power is in your hands!

Those of you talking about the Democrats being cowards need only cast a glance towards the political system in the UK, where our supposedly centrist Labour party government have been bent over double while the neo-cons shaft them, and have allowed legislation similar to the Patriot Act to go through parliament recently. Luckily for us, our 'Supreme Court', the House of Lords, is traditionally conservative and libertarian in the truest sense of the words, whilst the opposition is very much a Republican party out of power, so some of the more extreme aspects of the bill didn't go through. But from a traditionally socialist party, it's pretty shocking that they've managed to get away with reducing our freedom without much outcry from the public.

It seems to me that the key to all of this is education. Ill-educated people do not seem to question things. They will readily swallow the hype and the propaganda that politicians will dish out in their attempts to mask the real issues, because they don't know what the politicians actually stand for, or they are so disillusioned with politics that they simply don't care and don't vote. Media outlets don't help matters by providing a total distraction from the things that really matter, preferring to go on about the disgruntled people of wherever about the unsightly wind farms or other such provincial nonsense, or as you have in the US, things like abortion and gay marriage. All political discourse seems to get reduced to the level of school playground "he said" "she said" tittle tattle, and much of it completely incomprehensible to the layman. It's no wonder we're sleepwalking into fascism.

UK education is about to become corporate sponsored, like much US Public Education is, to the horror and dismay of many in the education sector. It seems to be well established that the corporatisation of schools creates good little consumers who never question anything, and why should they? After all, if Microsoft sponsored their computer lab, they must be good guys, right?

As has been demonstrated through the complete apathy of people in the US and the UK about their future in not preventing the Patriot act et al, and not stopping the Iraq war, it seems more people seem to care about who wins Pop Idol or Big Brother than care about their own futures, and something has to change, otherwise western democracy is doomed to become another relic of a bygone age. We in the US and UK are already tarred with the same brush as Israel. We are the 3 most despised nations on earth.

The only way this can change is if a whole movement of people actively reject the tenets of the two party system and provide a grass roots movement of people who can not only help to change the politics of the US, but provide people with the tools needed to spread and educate people to question their reality. Sure, the eavesdropping and all this Fifth Column crap makes life more difficult, but when the alternative is life in a KBR assembled gulag, surely its worth making an effort for.

Some have asked, "so what can we do about it?" Probably only small things. You can join the "Anti-incumbent party", continue to try the letter-writing, email, call, your reps. That won't accomplish much directly but the important thing is that you stay involved and connected to other like minds. Things have evolved beyond what the little people can turn around. Rep Murtha called for an end to bush's lying, criminal war in Iraq & the dems stuck him in the back too & joined with continuing bush's unholy crusade thru the middle east. The dems & repubs have been playing good cop/bad cop with you. Both are rotten & wicked to the core & reaping huge monetary rewards for their support of the war. I've just sent a rather scathing email to "my" Senator in D.C. (Feinstein) informing her that she no longer has my vote. I've been urging everyone I know to do likewise. What I keep getting confronted with, however, is the all pervasive "lesser of two evils" notion of "what would be better? Voting republican"? I said to vote independant until they get the message. Be careful what you wish for...

We need a party that can ignore the petty emotional hot button issues, e.g. pro-life, special rights for homosexuals", which gets everybody so upset they vote against their own best interests based on a single issue.

The focus of a new party needs to be specifically a restoration of our Constitution Rights. If you can avoid the hot buttons, you can reign in a lot of disaffected Americans.

To form a new party, let's create a website so those who agree can donate $2.00 or so to fund the new party. Of course, you could donate more. We could also all use USPS money orders so as not to be tracked. We don't want our names being given to the NSA upon request and without court orders!

I don't have the knowledge to build a site, but someone out there does.

We will need candidates! Who wants to be President, VP or a congress person who will not sell our country out to ANY bidder (I agree that the current administration & congress don't hold out for the highest bidder)?

We also need candidates for all state and local offices.

If you are worried about being hauled off to one of the new "camps", we can move into stealth mode and out of the way of those who would "accident" us. I enjoy a good rant as much as the next, especially when it opposes the President and his lackies, but what are angry, confused patriots like ourselves going to do now? The hard truth: nothing. Our protests are unnoticed and unheard. Every logical argument for impeachment lacks the politcial and financial backing to make it stick. Too many people are getting rich off of this administration to take a stand againist it.
Maybe taking up arms againist our country is the only way, but I really don't want it to come to that. The reality is that I will continue to shout and decry this administration with the hope that the next candidate won't wipe his/her ass with the constitution.

This approach of showing anger to bring about peace makes about as mush sense as invading another country to bring them freedom. There are people of both parties that we need fighting for us. Just because there are a lot of "bad apples" on both sides, there's no reason to believe that a lot of them aren't sincere in what they believe. They can't all be against us. It would be pretty obvious if they were.

It takes a special quality to appeal to people enough to change how they think about things. Anger is not that quality.

The problem with 3rd party candidates is that the media hates them with a vengance. Here in Minnesota, Jesse Ventura was regularly and irrationally trashed by our "media," if you can call what little they do as being communications. When an even better candidate, Tim Penny, was offered by the Independent Party as a candidate for Senator, the local media locked him completely out. Even public television and public radio ignored this experienced, well funded, well supported candidate.

The media makes a lot of money from the two party system. They will fight campaign reform with a vengance, since it always involves taking money from the "free market" that they own so completely and moving it into public venues. Ventura spoke eloquently and often about the two party media bias and he's worth noticing for many reasons.

Personally, I quit supporting, in any way, local media as a protest against their monopoly and political behavior. We have one sort-of-newspaper, City Pages, that I read and whose advertisers I support. The other two papers and our television stations are useless.

I was reffering to intelligent protest. Something we haven't seen a lot of lately. Cindy Sheehan is cool. I like her approach. I'm not saying to just cross your fingers, close your eyes, and pray for peace. I'm talking about having some unique ideas and not fighting hatred with hatred. When you start referring to our leaders as Scum sucking traitors to their country, you're only going to be preaching to the choir. No one else is going to read it. If you think that it's totally about who the Amerikkkan People have allowed themselves to vote for in the past (that grand choice between spam and braunschwagger for dinner, when what you really wanted was prime rib, but it wasn't on the menu...)then there's some things that you're perhaps not taking into account.

Remember Stalin's quote about 'those who count the votes deciding everything.'

Take Alaska for example; rigth now, from the '04 election, there seems to be a discrepency of about 100,000+ votes that shouldn't exist according to conventional wisdom. (That's a significant number of questionable ballots in a state of only 650,000 people)

No one knows if they're legit or not. And the Repugniks control the Office of (S)elections.

(I'll count to three while you take a guess at whose elctronic voting machines we've been using. It starts with the same letter that is one above a failing grade....)

And yes, most of our mainstream Dems are typically worthless up here too, with a handful of real, dignified, and deserving-of-support exceptions.

On initial request by the Dem Party, the Office of (S)elections told them that the data was private property belonging to that 'D' company. After that 'D' co. said that they wouldn't object to releasing that data (having already been run out of the Carolinas, BTW), the Repugnik's Office of (S)elections tentatively agreed to release files. Then they delayed, and finally refused, forcing the Demopublican Party to consider whether they'd sue to get them.

The Repugniks cited 'security' as the reason not to release those elctronic files (copies, to be exact). The only 'security issue' that I can conjure is that there might be some legitimate lynchings on main street if it's ever found, in a concrete and provable manner, that someone truly blatantly rigged a vote.

So, is the data being manipulated by a skilled programmer while we wait to see if the Demopublicans will take legal action?? Who knows?

And to those who downplay the viability of domestic revolt, do some historical research. Find the last time that a large conventional military force outright defeated a determined and sizable guerilla element anywhere in this world's history, without decimating the entire population in the process, and thus losing support and position overall in the end.

Good luck in your research, as I'm not aware of any. The Jews of Warsaw and their 'butterknife brigades who effectively fought tanks with moltovs and bearing grease?' Study the ramping up to, and carrying on of, the battles of Concord and Lexington at the outset of the American Revolution.

In simple terms, the leading members of the Sons of Liberty held private meetings strategizing, and continued to print their messages of freedom in local papers. They were an extreme minority; less than 2% initially.

They openly formed citizens' militias and drilled. At the same time, most vowed not to be the initial aggressors.

The King nor his commanding officers acted with outright blood-letting initially. They were somewhat disagreeing neighbors at that point.

The Founders refused to whince in re. to asserting their inherent unalienable birth rights of freedom. When they did decide to bear arms, it was for that purpose. Not rights given by a King, or rights 'given' by documents and papers, or rights bequeathed by obsessive compulsive busy-body neighbors through broad-baed democracy and mob rule, or rights donated by a nationalist military... but rights that they believed that ALL human beings possesed (aside from their rather narrow, but historically expectable, view of who was eligible to be considered a uman being).

When King George's troops finally did march to disarm and subjugate them, then they drew the line, squeezed triggers, and left George and his ranking military commanders dumb-founded as to what had just occured.... and what to make of it.

A study of that sequence of events, the honor involved in making a pact to not aggress, but the willingness to stand a line, still captures the mind and heart today. In essence, they were Rosa Parks with muskets, refusing to move beyond the place they stood in regard to liberty.
