CIA official investigated for cronyism

March 4, 2006 04:35 AM / FUBAR .
The CIA's top watchdog has opened an investigation into the agency's No. 3 official and his relationship with at least one defense contractor with alleged links to the bribery of a former congressman.

An agency official cautioned that the inspector general's review of the actions of CIA Executive Director Kyle "Dusty" Foggo was a routine response.

"It is standard practice for CIA's Office of Inspector General _ an aggressive, independent watchdog _ to look into assertions that mention agency officers. That should in no way be seen as lending credibility to any allegation," CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said Friday.

"Mr. Foggo has overseen many contracts in his decades of public service. He reaffirms that they were properly awarded and administered," Gimigliano said.

One of Foggo's closest friends, San Diego businessman Brent Wilkes, has been accused as an unindicted co-conspirator of taking part in a plot to bribe then-Rep. Randall "Duke" Cunningham.

The California Republican gave up his seat last year after pleading guilty to charges of tax evasion and conspiracy. Cunningham was sentenced Friday to eight years and four months in prison.

Foggo joined the agency in 1982 and made a career handling logistical support for the CIA. In various positions, he would have overseen millions in contracts that get little, if any, public scrutiny because of their secretive nature.

Newsweek first reported the CIA watchdog's investigation this week.

The next question to ask is, has the CIA been penetrated by foreign intelligence services? Cunningham, DeLay, Abramoff, and Foggo are more than likely linked - and there are probably others. DeLay was dealing with Russian Businessmen. Abramoff was making deals across the international scene. Was Wilkes/Wade/Foggo maybe also on the payroll of a foreign intelligence service (knowingly or unknowingly)? And where does Goss come in? All of these guys were reckless and greedy (and not very bright). Who else have they sold-out to knowingly and/or unknowingly?

Aren't "standard responses" those that we always receive in critical situations, i.e., the war in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, the renewal of the Patriot Act, the upcoming Referendum of The Protection Amendment to the Consitution (which will alter the separation of church and state forever), the recent Halliburton contracts, the most horrendous one of which is for the construction of detention camps. Wake up America! Restore our beloved country which is bleeding to death. How can we send all of elected officials into exile?

So far, I haven't seen any evidence of wrongdoing yet, just an allegation that there might be something wrong because Foggo's best friend happens to be an as yet unindicted co-conspirator of a tragically corrupt congressman. "Innocent until proven guilty", now where did I hear that, again? I think that I'll just wait for the facts before I issue Barney Fife's bullet to the firing squad.
